I don't know what happened though if it were lack of interest or lake of management of the whole project itself. | |

I, for one, can't wait. Since AT&T seems unwilling or unable to provide many in the area with broadband, this looks to be a promising alternative to satellite. Just hope they have worked out all of the interference issues.

But if they can work out the issues, I certainly wouldn't object to having competition for the cable and telcos. The symmetric upload potential is really interesting. I'm hoping for the best.

| I didnt even think BPL could get off the ground. If they can show the world that BPL is working without all the interference, they I say it SHOULD be our nation's supported broadband strategy.
Although, it is pretty sad that our nation supported a broadband method that had not even gotten off the ground to begin with.

| Let me explain an issue that happened in my town a while back. There was a water district outside of the city doing some digging and they hit the main fiber trunk coming out of the city. Guess what happened? No outside phone, no cell phone, no internet. Unless you had satellite phone/internet you were screwed. There was no way for emergency services to get contacts out of the city. Guess who came to the rescue with an existing backup plan for something like this? The local Amateur Radio Emergency Services people. By using voice communications and digital communications; Yes, we have digital communications, amazing isn't it? We were able to at least have a communications backbone for those who needed it most. The FCC recognizes Amateur Radio as an important part of communications, heck, even the President has recognized Amateur Radio as an important part of communications. Let us continue to help others, but first, we need others to help us.
Supporting a failing broadband alternative is wrong. All these companies are trying to do is keep the revenue flow going but they are hanging by a thread. Even in a rural area, fiber and cable can be just as easily rolled out as BPL. Wireless broadband would be a more viable solution over BPL.

| The service sucks The service sucks in grand ledge, I know I live there,...while having that extra upload is good it kills any radio between the AM and shortwave bands up into the 30-70mhz range except for a few stations which were notched out (not HAMS for sure). Also what the service really is despite what the name implies is wireless broadband with the connection coming into your home via a power line either attached to your pole or attached to your house. The interference is awful and even bleeds into lower FM on certain days. I hope they shut this POS down soon. They tried this with lighthouse broadband and no one wanted it. People are happy with comcast (and would like DSL if verizon would fix the damn digital switch). But also our cable network is setup correctly and evenly distributed among nodes so we don't have any overloaded nodes, which is due to the franchise agreement saying that they must be evenly distributed. | |
