MidContinent Communications Buys U.S. Cable
Picks Up Roughly 33,000 Customers in Two States
by Karl Bode Friday 10-Jun-2011 tags: business · cable · Midcontinent Communications
While major incumbent mergers get all the attention, there continues to be a significant wave of consolidation rolling through the nation's smaller, more-rural carriers. That consolidation continued this with with the news that MidContinent Communications will be buying U.S. Cable. According to the announcement, U.S. Cable systems pass approximately 86,000 homes and serve approximately 33,000 customers, most of which are in Minnesota and Wisconsin. "We’re excited about the opportunity to serve our new customers and become part of these communities," said Pat McAdaragh, Midcontinent’s president and CEO. "We believe that these systems are a nice fit for us. The US Cable fiber network is within 100 miles of our fiber network and we plan to connect the two networks, thereby expanding our reach eastward and getting us into the main network operator interconnect location in Minneapolis."

Midcontinent customers...how are they?

I have been on us cable for 12 long years, they don't offer high speed in my area. How aggressive is midcontinent with rolling out HSI? How are they customer service wise?

I hope they have some plans to improve the acquired networks and give qwest and their measly 1.5 mbps service a run for their money.

I have used Midcontintent in Sioux Falls, SD for over 6 years. I have been very happy with the level of up time, and speed that I have gotten from them.

They just recently finished a complete switch to all digital channels and are planned to add over 100 more HD channel middle to the end of July.

My Company is State-wide (SD), and uses them when they are available. We have had some cities that have a bit more spotty coverage here and there, but overall the satisfaction is pretty good. Recently went to Docsis 3.0 in my City, but I do not know about the smaller communities around ND, SD.

I think these are the same guys that have challenged copyright claims in court, and have been successful.

they push a lot of speed for not a lot of money. Customer service is top notch. Docsis 3.0 to most areas. 50/5Mbps available.

What I see here is: Lets leach off of a good network till its saturated.

I have US Cable, and I have a refreshing wonderful low latency 10Mb package for $36 a month with no CAP's and no contracts.

They better not mess with my service.

That $36 a month would get you 20Mb on Midco.

Its good

Midco deployed here in my town just a year or so ago and it was well worth the wait. The service is fast and lag free, and there's no caps as far as I know. The phone service I get through them is better quality than a genuine landline too.
