Midcontinent Communications (see our user reviews) has jumped into the DOCSIS 3.0 fray, launching a new swath of faster services under the MidcoNet Xstream Wideband Internet brand. According to a MidContinent news release, the new services offer speeds up to 100 Mbps downstream to more than 250,000 residential customers. The new services come in 30/5 Mbps, 50/10 Mbps and 100/15 Mbps flavors. Midcontinent apparently isn't too impressed with their prices, since they completely omit them from the press release and hide them behind a prequal wall on their website. Plugging in one of their service center addresses shows us the 30 Mbps tier is $45, the 50 Mbps tier is $65 and the 100 Mbps tier is $105 -- unbundled. The company appears to also offer a symmetrical 1 Mbps "lite" tier for $31 a month.

Unbundled prices not that bad

They certainly are competitive with what Comcast and Verizon are offering for similar tiers.

Hope they expand

I currently pay $82 @ Comcast for 22/5. I'd jump ship in a second.

Sure wish they would expand into larger cities in the area like Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Re: Hope they expand

I hear that they are taking over US Cable which is currently operating in the northern 'burbs like Cambridge, North Branch, Forest Lake, etc.

Phew, I'll take 30/5 please

30/5 for $45
1/1 for $31

Is the 1/1 price just covering operational costs or what?

Midcontinent has the idea

50Mbps/10Mbps for $65 unbundled is far cheaper than what Time Warner has Roadrunner in my area for unbundled. Roadrunner Turbo would put me at the $65 mark and that gives PowerBoosted (downstream) 15Mbps/2Mbps. Wideband goes for $110 or so and goes 50Mbps/5Mbps. So provided Midcontinent doesn't have data limits, it sounds like a pretty decent deal.

Midcontinent doesn't doesn't have data caps. It's a beautiful thing. Even on my DOCSIS 2 modem I get the full 30/5 service.

Sounds Good to Me

Cap-free 30/5 for $45?

That's less than what I pay Atlantic Broadband for 10/1!

There is no Cap.. and yes they're the best around and they wont change.. they used to be a small town ISP now they're getting bigger by the year.

I've been with them since the start back in 2001 and never looked back. Their Tier Prices are unbeatable and they also have a 1yr NON CONTRACT 99.99 that u can renew every 2yrs if you want. You can change anything and everything wont get changed fees and new customers get free install's and 3 cable installs. Tech support is amazing and it isnt gibberish like some ISP's.

If you guys want to know more just ask me or visit the site. i see them taking over in the next 5-10yrs.

Competitive..

I know nothing of this ISP, but wow, that's really competitive. Almost identical to what Cablevision offers. And actually, I think I pay $65 for OOL's 50/8 tier. I want that 10mbps upstream.
