Milwaukee Common Council approves Wi-Fi deal

By an overwhelming vote of 14-1, the Milwaukee Common Council approved an agreement with Midwest Fiber Networks, Milwaukee, to build a $20 million city-wide wireless computer network.

Midwest Fiber has a 14-year contract with the city to provide the network and services. There is an option for an additional six years. The company expects to finish the overall system in 18 months. A demonstration area west of downtown will be running in four months.
