Let the newspapers fail.
Something else will rise in their stead.
Our local newspapers haven't done any real journalism in a generation.

People would then state that they should be allow to bypass newspaper pay walls.
Just as when the music industry here in the US wants a tax to cover the cost of piracy, it could open them to more piracy and possibly generate a legal loophole for downloaders who could then claim they paid for the content through the tax. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports

The article claims that while a broadband tax is ridiculous, it's less ridiculous than taxing Google. In my opinion, that's like saying you are more likely to die if attacked by a 1,500lb vs. a 1,000lb polar bear. On the surface, smaller sounds better but relative weight isn't the risk. It's why it attacked -- to eat or protect. If it's hungry, you will be consumed. If it's protecting, after mauling you it might leave you alive.

And this person is saying that everybody should have to step outside once and awhile so the 1000lb one can maul them just a bit to remain fair to the one who failed to adapt to the new fence around the city. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports

Though you gotta figure, most media outlets in the US already parrot and spew everything the current administration wants them to say already, would there be any real difference if this happened here?
And yes, it has been proposed for the US as well. -- Romney/Ryan 2012 - Put a couple of mature adults in charge.

Especially unlike normal smartphones when the RIM network goes down the phone can lose much of its functionality beyond making calls. When naturally the emails are vital to running a business these days.
I tend to think BB10 will not put them on a road to recovery, They are facing the most competitive market in years. Android has excellent phones, Odds are by the BB10 release there will be an iPhone 5s coming and a Galaxy S3 v2 or Galaxy S4 along with great offerings from HTC and LG.
And the third pitch coming in at 112mph while being a curve ball is Windows Mobile. WM8 is a wildcard, it could fall flat or it could be the smartphone silver bullet that IT departments are looking for. If it can tightly wrap into existing enterprise windows networks it will give business the control they desire and if MS can sign on app devs, it could offer the app coverage that has current users seeking iOS and Android phones.
naturally the windows8 phones are still a very unpredictable wildcard in the smartphone market. with everything depending on MS being able to get app developers on board. One can have a great phone but with no Apps nobody will buy it. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports
