Actually it's good to hear that only 26 Americans last year were stupid enough to not realize they'd be enjoying these rewards on the unemployment line. Those 26 people shouldn't bother asking their former employer for a reference.

| Sandvine now to throttle Mobile Internet! Throttling solutions are getting hammered now and so Sandvine thinks they can now produce their service engines for mobile internet services.
I've got a better idea for Sandvine! Find a useful product instead of one that takes ISPs back 10 years!

| Re: Sandvine now to throttle Mobile Internet! That last line about "business intelligence" is worrisome. Business Intelligence usually implies spying on the competition, or spying for profit. Not too sure you'd want a network provider anywhere near that. -- Toolmaster of La Grange. | |

Hm, yeah- I had a relative who was a manager at Verizon who both worked from home and used Comcast Internet- they now use FiOS, but I'm sure there are other workers like that... seems like treading on very dangerous ground.

@rr.com | Committment? AT&T hasn't made any commitment to California, other than to raise rates across the board.

| Mobile broadband subscribers increase by 850 percent This is surprising to me.
I would think that the very low caps and higher price (compared to an equivalent cable or DSL service) would turn people off.
Right now, I have no desire for such a service. But if I did, I would use Sprint EV-DO because they don't have caps.
If VZW or AT&T think that I would pay $60/mo. for a mere 5GB/mo., they are very mistaken. Add the fact that they even have restrictions in the T.O.S. beyond just the 5GB cap.
There's also T-Mobile, which doesn't have caps. But, I won't pay $50/mo. if EDGE is the best they can do, even in a highly populated area.
I don't see it becoming really big unless these things happen:
- 5GB caps are a joke. Eliminate caps, or at least make them very, very high. - Get rid of the other restrictions. On VZW, no streaming video is allowed, which presumably includes YouTube. - Offer a plan that includes a static IP, since some people want or need it.
The transfer cap thing is going to be a HUGE deal, especially when LTE finally arrives.
