That's a very bad precedent

That means perfectly legal activity could have you convicted in draconian areas.

Let me give you an example. Lets say you're a freelance journalist and you write for a political blog about efforts at freedom in China.

The Chinese government decides your articles are illegal in China, and you're convicted of espionage in absentia. You may not even be aware of the trial, but you're tried and convicted.

Now, 5 years later you're invited to cover a "Freedom March" in China as a journalist. You travel to China, the Government becomes aware as you enter the country, and suddenly you're picked up and thrown in a deep dark hole--- forever.

Nice precedent, there.

Re: That's a very bad precedent

if youa re responding this this

"Appeals Court Says Internet Content Should Be Held To Standards Of Strictest Jurisdiction "

the OP is not is overreaching a bit and not familiar with the case. The guy got into trouble not because he just had some porn website up. He only got into trouble when he sent that porn through the mail to that area. Also this guys porn isn't exactly vanilla porn. Borders on "rape" porn. I still think the whole thing is stupid, but it's equally stupid to send porn through the mail to areas that have strict community standards.
