NN Loophole...

All I read is more whining by those who want to extort a simple network connection under the guise of it being necessary to encourage capital investment.

When capital improvements are necessary, my other utilities add a fee to my bill as part of improvement campaigns. Why would a communication network be different? Doesn't history provide sufficient proof that it's either competition or regulation?

Regarding smart electricity meters, they are already here. My meter has been "on-line" since at least 2010 through some kind of RF link. It's a real time system that knows my current usage at all times. It even has the capability of remote disconnect. I suspect the other "Internet of Things" mentioned in this article will happen in spite of preventing oligopolists from exploiting their market positions.
