The VOIP Revolution isn't Dead

Cable COs seem to be killing the Bells on it.

Hey, VOIP companies outside the mainstream, if you want more than techie people, DESIGN AN EASY PRODUCT TO INSTALL AND USE THAT LASTS! Has KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid, gone out the window? Cable COs set it up for you. It works. Doesn't have fancy names like "Gizmo" or Just Plug it Into your USB port? "My what?"

VOIP has never got anything more than the tech-inclinded group except the big boys that do it right like Cable COs. Quality, consistently applied, doesn't hurt either.

How many comments like, "They took two months to port my number!!!" "Cancelling Vonage is worse than getting rid of AOL AND herpes." "I'm on my third Gizmo already. Arghh!"

And, of course, "I just use my cellphone. If it doesn't work, nothing does."

Re: The VOIP Revolution isn't Dead

"How many comments like, "They took two months to port my number!!!""

I can tell you from first hand experience that delayed ports are almost always a hold up on the side of the losing carrier. I have been fighting for almost 6 weeks to port one of my personal numbers from a Clec to our VoIP network. The latest excuse is that there is a mismatch on my address.

I've had some really bad experiences getting numbers from Clecs. They drag their feet so they can send in the "retention specialists". I know this sounds weird but the easisest carrier to get a number from is AT&T.

Re: The VOIP Revolution isn't Dead

Let's not forget that the VoIP companies (excluding cable) bring on a lot of their problems, for example:

1) The SunRocket fiasco.

2) Vonage's unbroken string of financial loses and their somewhat dismal stock performance. Both of these cause one to wonder if they can remain in business.

If anyone did a minimum amount of research, probably both of these items would come up and make one wonder, do I really want service from these companies.

If the incompetent employees at a VOIP company can't submit a port request right (all info must be the same as the CLEC's records), that is the problem.

T drags its feet when switching to Cox--mine took 12 days.

Let's try this sentence again.

"I have been fighting for almost 6 weeks to port one of MY personal numbers from a Clec to OUR VoIP network."

DELL is being sued to $500 million NOT $500,000

Way the article talks, I hope DELL loses.

Re: DELL is being sued to $500 million NOT $500,000

This just in, women historically make less then men. News at 11. I'm not saying that it's fair (it usually isn't) but that's the way it's been for pretty much forever.

I did find it interesting that the class counsel says that they will win on statistical evidence. I didn't realize statistics were necessarily proof that they discriminated. Taking a look at another popular technology company, less then 80% of their upper management is female.

Before judging too much, I would want to see more evidence of the statistics.

I personally hate DELL so hope they lose anyway. If one can sue WalMart on this issue, how easy would it be to sue DELL???

RE: French Senate passes bill to disconnect filesharers

That title is entirely misleading. They aren't disconnecting filesharers, they are disconnecting pirates. And good for the French, they should do the same here.

Re: RE: French Senate passes bill to disconnect filesharers

the media has trouble seperating piracy and file sharing. and the MAFIAAs like it that way, as it allows them to scare rights infringing bills like the DMCA past government officals.

*i call the DMCA rights infringing because it breaks rights given to me by US copyright laws, such as making a copy of anything i want for backup or personal use. not that i follow the DMCA but its still the point.

Re: Mobile WiMax may not make corporate connections

All the FUD suggests that some major corporations are really afraid a nationwide Wi-Max network could really be built out.

BTW calling recent copyright legislation "rights infringing" or perhaps public domain theft sounds good to me.
