Big overseas telecom operators are showing an interest in exploring the Thai market, according to Sudharma Yoonaidharma of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), The Nation reports. Sudharma said recently that among these were O2 and BT, both British-based, Vodafone and DoCoMo. Also making inquiries are companies from China, Taiwan, Singapore and Australia, he added. The Thai telecom market, now being liberalized, is becoming attractive, with some local operators seeking partners to develop new services. A source revealed that in late 2005, China Telecom and major enterprises from Hong Kong and Sweden had contacted the NTC for details of investment guidelines and regulations. The NTC started granting Internet service-provision licenses early in 2005 and, in August, awarded licenses to TOT and CAT Telecom to operate their existing services.
