As Motorola tries to right the ship...

According to the Wall Street Journal, both T-Mobile and Verizon are poised to begin offering Motorola phones with Google's Android operating system later this year. T-Mobile in August will begin selling the HTC myTouch 3G for $199 with a two-year contract, but they'll also soon start selling a touch-screen Motorola phone with a slide-out keyboard and Android -- as will Verizon. Motorola is hoping that Google Android will be their ticket up and out of their recent financial slump on the handset front. Judging from leaked T-Mobile roadmaps circulated among gadget blogs earlier this year, the T-Mobile device in question appears to be the "Motorola Morrison" (pics).

More good news for Android platform

And the Android platform gets Flash 10 capability in the fall. That puts Hulu and some other online video platforms in play for the Android phones.

The new Flash player will support Android, Nokia Symbian, Palm Web OS, and Windows Mobile powered devices
Makes these phones more competitive with Flash capability. Does anyone know if the iPhone gets Flash anytime this year or next?

It's perpetually "coming soon." Personally, I think Apple would rather not open up Flash and would rather have everything app based. I actually agree with them as so far, native apps provide a much better experience than Flash.

Hulu is developing an app and Joost already has one.

Re: More good news for Android platform

I would expect Flash to arrive on the iPhone just prior to Apple actually having some serious Flash-capable competition.

Much like their choice to not include MMS, and to not code the landscape keyboard to work on ALL apps, you can always count on Apple to tout a shortcoming as some sort of roundabout "feature".

I agree, the promise of the G1 was Flash, and it's been almost a full year since release and still no (official) flash capability, though there is an unofficial Flash 8 .apk out there.

Though when I really think about the Flash experience, I really don't want it on my mobile - it's going to kill my G1's 1350 mah battery, and as mentioned, the performance of Flash versus the alternatives is very poor.

A hulu and joost app on android phone would cease all work productivity for me.

@verizon.net

You want 50 different apps out there for each popular website that offers flash video? Sure hulu is probably the biggest flash movie/tv site, but theres tons of websites out their that offer good content that is in flash.. of course some of them I cant name here

Having a Cow

Do you think Apple is going to have a conniption fit about the name of the phone "myTouch 3G"? The copyright/trade mark lawyers are licking their collective chops on this one.

They can try... But considering 3G is the name of the technology, I doubt they will get any serious traction on that front.

Motorola

The Morrison looks like the HTC Touch. If Motorola is lookiing for a ticket out of their current slump, maybe they should try building a phone that doesn't look like so many that are already out there. Also, my last Motorola had terrible reception, I hope they've done better with this one.

All of my motorolas have had terrible reception, call quality, and build quality. I don't expect that to change any time soon.

Re: Motorola

Every Moto phone I've had (from early StarTAC, MicroTAC, v188, v330, RAZR v3) has had exceptionally high build quality. Their reception and voice quality are second to none. Where they always fell down was their OS, their menu systems were arcane at best. But I could always count on the hardware to be superb and durable.

Consider yourself lucky that your Moto handsets weren't plagued with poor reception, dead screens, and bad batteries.
