Motorola to buy wireless broadband supplier

Crain’s) — Motorola Corp. is purchasing NextNet Wireless to help grow its broadband wireless equipment business.

“Our acquisition of NextNet furthers Motorola’s strategy to continue to expand and profitably grow our wireless broadband business and furthers our efforts in seamless wireless broadband mobility,” Greg Brown, president of Motorola’s networks and enterprise business, said in a statement.

The purchase, announced Wednesday, involves a series of transactions between Schaumburg-based Motorola, its investment arm Motorola Ventures and wireless high-speed Internet provider Clearwire of Kirkland, Wash. NextNet Wireless, a supplier of wireless broadband equipment, is a subsidiary of Clearwire.
