Terabyte!Transferring a terabyte in a second over a long distance is freaky fast. If one-way latency is 100ms, the source would push 100GByte of data into the path before the first byte emerged at the destination.

Comcast, Verizon and ATTComcast, Verizon and ATT might have something to say about all of this...

Re: Comcast, Verizon and ATTDon't be too surprised if they are not responsible for some elements in this network. Level3, AT&T, and Verizon, not Comcast.

Monthly paymentHow much do they pay per month for 91 Gbps?
|
| |
Re: Monthly paymentThey are buying dark fiber so the speed has no bearing on the cost. When we buy fiber like that my fiber cost is the same at 10mb or 10gb. It's the electronics on each end that has the effect on my monthly costs.

I'd imagine a 100 Gbps wavelength on a fairly dense longhaul route isn't that expensive. I know what I pay for 10G wavelengths, and even at 10x the price, the number isn't scary.

It is really how much do we pay in taxes for 91 Gbps. If they could get that to cell towers they might get away with ISP over wireless instead of FTTH. But it would be nice for them to come out with house equipment of that speed with FTTH.
When the get to 400 Gbps the 91 Gbps will just be like DSL speeds now. I remember getting bumped up to 56K back in the last century.

Re: Monthly paymentThe bandwidth to the towers has little to do with the speeds we get out of wireless connections.
It is the wireless spectrum that determines our speed. If you are right next to someone on a wireless phone and you're both using data and are on the same carrier, you are both using the same spectrum and sharing bandwidth. More wired bandwidth to a tower does not help with faster wireless home connection. Unless you happen to be on some tower that is still on T1's or T3's.
