There has been a lot of controversy about the move that many ISPs are making towards metered broadband. People who are opposed to metered broadband cite a variety of reasons including that this is going to restrict people from watching streaming videos because it will become too costly to do so. As pointed out over at GigaOm, we are starting to see the first signs of this problem with a warning from NBC Olympics On the Go which reads:
"The NBC Olympics On The Go software is designed to keep you up-to-date with the latest Olympic events. The software will initiate downloads without notification. Since the NBC Olympics On The Go software delivers large video files, it may use a lot of bandwidth. This software is not recommended for people with dial-up or metered broadband Internet access. "
This warning is one of the first official signs that metered broadband is going to limit the otherwise standard video viewing that people have gotten used to in the past couple of years.
