March Madness finds yet another outlet

It’s mid-March, and if you’re from the kind of college-sports-frenzied town that I’m originally from, that means only one thing: NCAA March Madness. YouTube company heads must be from that kind of town because they have just announced that they are joining forces with the NCAA, CBS Sports and Pontiac to bring the basketball championship games to the site. YouTube NCAA offerings will include near-real-time clips and game highlights, press conference footage and other “various video”. Reported to be highly user-friendly, the clips are easily linked back to the real footage; combined with CBS online viewing, you don’t have to miss a single shot.

tivo like

Thats pretty cool I would like to see how real time it is. I also wonder how they will organize it all with the long list of clips they will put up. They need to air it online with tivo like capabilities. that would be nice. On a wide screen 21 inch monitor this should look good.

Hmm

First Viacom sues YouTube for a cool billion and now they are teaming with them for this event to get their content distributed.

Talk about passive agressive behavior.

I think CBS and Viacom split.

At the end of 2005, CBS and other traditional broadcasting assets became the new CBS Corporation following the split of Viacom

We, meaning I work there, still have the same CEO.

Re: Hmm

Sumner Redstone is chairman of both companies but they are now independent of eachother with different stock symbols and different CEOs. Les Moonves for CBS and Philippe Dauman for Viacom.

good for gogle

if this is viacom putting their content on you tube then this is a big win for google. The pending court case would have a hell of a lot less validity if it is true.

Re: YAY!!!

No kidding.

I guess since they are providing it at no cost, it's anyone's option.

CBS Sportsline is providing the first 3 rounds of the tourney at better than youtube quality with only a registration requirement. So no big shakes I guess for this development.

And that offering is real-time.....

learn from p2p

Make it p2p like, lower bandwidth costs, increase quality.. wait that makes too much sense. CBS has been streaming the games for at least 2 years now. I was a little disappointed they wouldnt let me watch the BC game due to blackout bs.
