By Martha McKaySpeaking to a group of New Jersey business leaders Thursday morning, Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg fielded a question about the company's plans for global expansion.
Not missing a beat, Seidenberg replied, "The first thing we're worried about is Hasbrouck Heights."
Though it might seem unusual for the chief executive of a $71 billion company to pay attention to a borough of 12,000, Verizon is doing battle on a very local level these days.
The company wants to sell TV service - competing with cable and satellite - over a high-capacity fiber-optic network it's building in Bergen and Passaic counties and other parts of the state.
