NY State Regulators Delay Comcast Merger Decision For Third Time
New York State regulators have put off a decision on Comcast's $45 billion acquisition of Time Warner Cable for a third time. "Because of the proposed merger's potential impact on consumers, and the complexity of the issues raised in the proceeding, Gov. Cuomo has asked the PSC to do a full and complete review of all of the issues surrounding the transaction," the NY PSC tells the Albany Times Union. "This is a complex matter and requires consideration of numerous facts that can affect millions of New Yorkers." A merger most thought would see guaranteed approval is now being seen as much less of a sure thing.

Translation: Give us something.

"We want moar before giving the green light."

Useless politicos, trying to twist this into votes.

That's half of what this is all about!

This is true. Especially since TWC is already moving key departments around and introducing partners to new contacts that were with either Charter or Comcast. TWC knows this is going forward or has plans to sell the entire company off in chunks to whom ever wants it

Sheldon Silver

With the Assembly Speaker having been arrested and under indictment for corruption, they need time to identify the new bag man. Nothing really shocking as the next Speaker will be just as corrupt. Even the Feds seems to admit that it will be business as usual.

Re: Sheldon Silver

It wouldn't be business as usual, if they hung Silver with a hangman's noose in the public square, like the guy needs to have done to him. $4 million is a huge sum of money. My friend met him once and shook his hand and she said he was slimy. Given he's a devout Orthodox Jew, that's quite sad. He probably just used that for cover.

They want to continue their thieving ways by controlling the internet. If they take over TWC our connections will be capped and throttled. They will ruin the internet. The entire internet will be packaged like cable television is now.

... Except

Except, the NY PSC (or any other state PSC) cannot actually prevent the merger directly. This is just more political wrangling.

All Comcast Customers Should Request to see the notes on their accounts

It's legal, and Comcast has to allow it.

Wonder what else is out there in the ether?

new carrier

the NYC PSC should identify the non-serviced communities and use the 500 million dollars to bring a new carrier such as Google to NY state! NYS is cutting red tape and offering tax incentive for other businesses to open up here.. why not Google?

or if that's too much trouble.. spend big on a small carrier like RCN to take a bigger chunk of NYS to allow them to offer docsis 3.1 at affordable rates. RCN expanding to the long island suburbs, taking more of NYC and upstate NY would go a long way to due justice to the incumbent carrier's neglect and taking for granted the consumers who pay high prices, high tax subsidies and get nothing in return.

all the big carriers seem focused on is more profit with less value
and 2015 has already started off that way with higher prices.. it's not wonder consumers are CUTTING BACK on services they now CAN NOT AFFORD!

Re: new carrier

I'm tired of TWC in the buffalo area. If you live in Niagara county you can't get fios. At least if the TWC-COMCAST merger is complete ill be able to get 100megs. I want to to see some type of speed increase somewhere i don't care from where at this point.
