Netflix Nabs 31 Emmy Nominations
Netflix's decision to develop original content to help bypass the quite-intentional broadcaster licensing logjam continues to pay dividends. Netflix this week was nominated for 31 Emmy awards, less than HBO (99) and the top broadcast networks, but more than AMC (26), Showtime (24) or Comedy Central (21). Netflix's haul is in large part thanks to House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, which each received twelve nominations apiece. How many award Netflix actually nabs this year will be determined on August 25.

Netflix vs. OTA TV

We do TV OTA. Never could see the sense in the expense of subscription TV. For recent release movies: We either buy 'em (if it's something special) or rent them from the local rental store. And we have a Netflix streaming subscription. For $8/mo. Netflix can't be beat, in our (my wife's and my) opinion. Hulu Plus we cancelled quite soon. Netflix, though? I think we watch stuff on Netflix more than we do on OTA TV, by far. Especially in the summertime, when everything on broadcast TV is reruns.

We looked in on Orange Is The New Black. Didn't care for it. Haven't tried House of Cards yet.
