New 45 Mbps U-Verse Tiers Reach Six More States We were the first to report on AT&T's new 45 Mbps U-Verse speeds before they officially arrived back in August. First made available in California and Nevada, AT&T has since expanded the offering into 17 states, and today announced five more. According to a company announcement, the new tier will arrive Sunday in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. The new "U-Verse Power" tier offers users 45 Mbps down, 6 Mbps up for as low as $50 a month -- if users sign a two-year contract and bundle it with U-Verse TV and Voice services. The website has listed the non-promotional price as $76 a month. Only some markets within these states will see the upgrades, including Little Rock Arkansas; Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; St. Louis, Missouri; and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (see the AT&T release for the full list). Additionally, not everybody in these markets will be able to access these new speeds, depending on copper quality and loop length. The latest upgrades are important for AT&T, whose previous top speed of 25 Mbps down, 3 Mbps up failed to come close to the faster 50, 100 and even 300-500 Mbps tiers now being deployed by cable broadband operators like Comcast. 45 Mbps down, 6 Mbps up is certainly an improvement, but the upstream side of the equation in particular continues to look decidedly last generation for a top shelf offering. AT&T announced in May of 2011 they'd be imposing 150 GB caps on DSL users, and a 250 GB cap on U-Verse users, with users paying $10 for every additional 50GB thereafter. However, we've noted since that AT&T appears to have temporarily suspend caps for U-Verse users given the increasing pressure they've seen from faster cable competitors.

| Re: Pricing What % of the people in the 45/6 Mbit area can actually get 45? I never see those numbers published. If you look at cable and FTTH that speed tier is almost 100%, but DSL who has those numbers?
Is it 20% or 80% or something else?
I have TWC that will do 50/5 or Verizon who will do 500/100. I don't have to "worry" if I can get that speed though from either. Comcast can go over 100 traditional or GB w/ FTTH. I know Cablevision is the same.
What say thee in AT&T land?

Some test, verizon and comcast test sites to ATL were both above 45/5...so, there seems to be some room for error on these speed test sites. Happy with the service!!

| | | | | | | Re: Pricing That's nice. Here in the city (L.A.) we're stuck with TWC however so we can only get 50/5 for $105 or 30/5 for $85. Compared to that AT&T's 45/6 for $76 looks like a good deal (if it was actually available here that is).

What are you talking about? TWC's closest is 30/5 for $60 if you can get the promo which ended months ago or $85 regular price.

| Re: Pricing We've been paying $30/month out-the-door for over four years, usually for "Standard" service, which is now rated 15/1 and delivering 35/1.
It takes diligence to maintain the price-performance-point, but it is consistently available if you're willing to do the work, something I can't say happens with AT&T accounts.
At some point, the upload constraint might be a problem, but it hasn't been to date.

No, UVerse (VDSL2/ADSL2) type does not use PPPoE.. They require an AT&T Provided Router/Gateway that has a 802.1x Authentication method using certificate information pushed by the AT&T provisioning system.

| | | | Re: anybody know how many users have... I know of several in different areas here in North Texas I am able to get it if I wanted it but I have TWC's 30/5 (34/5.5 after fluff and overhead)
Seems TWC is changing the upstream frequencies in North Texas as I saw on one modem today 2 3.2MHz wide channels and 2 6.4MHz wide channels bonded on the SBG6580 and mine is still 4 3.2MHz wide channels bonded on the upstream on the SBG6580 so TWC is up to something here in North Texas probably adding more capacity to be able to offer 50/10 and 75/10 or something similar. I know that this is happening around the time At&t is launching but I don't think they are related more of timing coincidence as TWC has been upstream bonding for over a year now and I guess they are trying to push out more upstream bandwidth per node

| | Too late and too expensive AT&T Just got hooked up with Charter, 30Mbps, for the same price I was paying for 1.5Mpbs from AT&T, for the next two years. After that it will cost a bit more, but still cheaper than whatever AT&T is offering. And I was on a 19Mbps profile with AT&T so I couldn't get anywhere near 30 anyways.

| | | Too little too late Also too expensive for 45 Mbps. Cable is eating U-verse's lunch now and has the capability to bury U-verse in the future. | |
| | Merlin join:2012-06-08 Dallas, TX | Re: Too little too late You might want to look at the quarterly reports before spreading such misinformation. U-verse is adding customers faster than any other ISP in the country, most of them are switching over from cable. | |

Honestly was the cheapest and fastest upload in my area.
| | | New 45 Mbps U-Verse Tiers Reach Six More States Way over priced when compared to Comcast so who cares what AT&T does anymore. | |
