New Bill Threating Weather Monitoring
by Paul928 Saturday 23-Apr-2005
By Ed Oswald, BetaNews - April 22, 2005

The Internet has made weather data more freely accessible to those who want it. Thanks to new policies instituted by the National Weather Service, users can obtain free access to such things as live radar, weather forecasts, and even receive weather on their cell phones. However, a bill introduced last week by Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) may end all that.

"NOAA's actions threaten the continued success of the commercial weather industry," Santorum said in a Senate session last week. "It's not an easy prospect for a business to attract advertisers, subscribers, or investors when the government is providing similar products and services for free."

What a crock!

This is bulls***! So, now everyone will have to turn on the TV and watch Weather Channel? Or pay some crazy ass fee to see the weather images on their computers?

SCREW THAT!

Re: What a crock!

Remember that this country is run by old politicians who don't want anyone in the newer generation to have anything for free. Soon we'll have to have licenses to use the air we breathe.

Hell no! NOAA also sends warnings to those who may be in danger of storms. Do they have to pay for a warning? If I was boating and there was a storm coming, I wouldnt want to have a bunch of companies badgering me to pay for their warnings!

I've often thought that the good senator should get a name change -- to Sen. Sanatorium. The guy's a nut case, this bill is ludicrous, and I'm with you all the way...screw it!

Those days in Rampart, LAPD, filled me with wonder, horror, and glee. Lemme clue you in, judgments are the sin, you should see what I've seen, been where I've been.

Agreed! Santorum is a mindless, paid for puppet and jerk.

That is not his only fame either as Google will show you. Be warned that content is adult.

Do you use any resources at all from NOAA? Do you pay to use them in your job? If no you do not pay and yes you do use any of the resources for free then pay "all the taxpayers" in this thread back the money that they pay for NOAA in their taxes if you want to continue to use resources from a government agency that are paid for in the first place by each of us.

Re: What a crock!

That is the sad state of education when one buys a diploma from those snail mail correspondence schools today. They don't have a web presence as that would triple the diploma costs......
