I had DirecTV installed today, received ~80 more channels, some in HD I can't even get on Time Warner, for $40 a month LESS than Time Warner.
I'm taking my TW HD box back tomorrow. Perhaps they should work on increasing their incentives or lowering their pricing. -- Pretty Fly for a White Guy

In DirecTV's case, they're known for downsampling 1920x1080i to 1440x1080i -- |- The LP »www.lp.org/issues/issues.shtml -| |- Cato @ Liberty »www.cato-at-liberty.org -

| Re: Ironic And there hasn't yet been any proof at all that they are down sampling anything on the new MPEG 4 setup. In watching on my brothers Sony HDTV (I have yet to go HD) His OTA locals looked only very slightly better than the DTV HD channels.
I haven't seen cable HD to compare them to, but compared to the SD version of the same channel the difference is night and day.
Would I rather have 100+ HD channels from DTV even if they are HD Lite or 12 or 15 from Insight in full 1080i? Well, if what I saw at my brothers house was HD Lite I'll happily take the quantity.

| You can always get better deals with TWC if you ask for them. Tell them you want a package deal. I have 77 channels, digital phone- the unlimited phone, plus RoadRunner Turbo for $98 per month with taxes for 12 months.
You just have to call in and have them repackage everything after the package runs out. Its not hard. 15 minutes and the bill is less.

But with HD did Adelphia offer it at any time? Because i know when they offered things here they slowly bring all their areas up to meet all the services they have. HD will probably be the last service they have.
Especially since Adelphia is considered the step-child.

jgkoltPremium join:2004-02-21 Lakewood, OH | horrible In the Ohio markets at least Time Warner is KNOWN to have HORRIBLE cusotmer service and major quality issues with their internet and service repair jobs.
In this area the cable goes out WAY more than people with satellite connections. Where I used to live with cox cable I never worried about the connection going out except when the major blackout many years ago and when a squirrel bit into the line, but cox fixed that right away.
I do not know ONE person that is happy with time Warner out here. EVERY Single person I have talked to since I moved here has a horror story or someone close that had a horror story but we are stuck with them in this area.
I am no fan boy of the new AT&T or so they say but it was the only competitor. They have quality issues around here also but my biggest gripe is I have to buy a phone line which i will NEVER use just so they can pad their number if I want internet through them (or pay $20 more a month). They have you cornered. Earthlink was even competitive in price and speed nor with an accurate measure of what I can get around here since I dont have a phone line (nor will I due to my cell phone).
Sadly I ended up with Time Warner since they had the fastest speeds per price. But I understand now the hour long endless support calls to customer service, tech, etc. They have no clue what their other units are doing. My 15 mbps down internet fluxuates to maybe 1 or 2 mbps on the busy nights. My girlfriend in the area had a 256 mbps connection through Adelphia and TW never told her she should be receiving the 1.5 mbps speed for what she was paying.
She uses a voip phone and has been getting horrible latency but they would not come out to fix anything since they said" you are on the internet right" then there is no problem CLICK. They hung up on her! I cannot believe the business like this can be ran so horrible treating their customers as they do.
The install guys who came out couldnt even figure out why they couldnt get internet on my pc. They HAD to install it and make me pay for it when ALL they HAD to do was plug modem in to router then my pc. Well my pc has a static IP from my old house and they were clueless how to change it. I told them just to go and let me work on it AND I PAY OFR THIS? Bull. Well after many calls and instructions to go to offices NO LONGER THERE they finally credit my account (I had a referral slip for free install).
When I asked about how much installation was they kept quoting me diff numbers. No one knew how much the upload speed was. They asked if I wanted internet and I said yes so they expected I would get the internet at whatever speed they thought I needed. Bull. I don't want phone service through them so I need to pay more for my internet. Their TV service is horrible in service uptime and quality (or lack there of) components. I wish I could go somewhere else but I dont have many choices. Bad duopoly bad.
They actually cancelled my install for internet (which took a while just to get them to come out) since I didnt pick up the phone. They said they stopped out and no one was here. Bull I was waiting at my place. I dont want to complain to them about how their business image is since everyone seems to know this so they must know and not care. Plus I dont know if they have the clause like att and Verizon did where if I talk bad about them I get my account canned. -- 3 free for you/3 free for me: Free Stock Trades : PM Me

| Re: horrible Horrible CS depends what happened, where you live and who you talk to-mainly who you talk to. Many reps just won't help and tell you that you need a Tech to come out. Thats the horrible part. They refuse to fix what they can. That's their solution is a truck roll to make $50 off you if its not their problem rather than paying the money on the 800 numbers.
I've only had horrible experience a few times; mainly with techs that refuse to do what they're suppose to as well. Gotta love the ones that blame everything on your computer/s especially if its brand new; like it happened to me.
If you or your GF is having that bad of service with TWC why don't you call up their actual Corp. office for your market or send them a letter. Hell the Presidents contact information is published online; you just have to look for it. TWC does not like their customers hung up and they will tell you that. It sounds like NEO is the problem and not all of the Ohio Markets but every company has issues; especially after taking over a company that is totally different in equipment and services than what they already have. I had the same problem when going from a locally owned cable company to TWC lots of problems but they're worked out you just have to give them time to get all the nodes up to where TWC's goal is and keep on the Corp office about getting things done. And an FYI- never call or email the BBB TWC doesnt care.

| | | I know in my area the service is horrible. The cable tv is terrible. They don't even have hd. Their internet isn't very good either. Most of the time when i had their internet i got less than 1mb download speed. I have a feeling my area will be one of the first markets to go if they do sell some markets off. | |

| | Heres an IDEA!! Remember that company that everyone hated until it was slowing going, going, gone and realized how CUTTING EDGE and yes i said CUTTING EDGE ADELPHIA WAS. Hey NEW TWC CEO you want to be BOLD, You want happy customers try this on for size. Go for the old ADELPHIA model, And no i don't mean the reasons that the Rigas got in trouble. I'm talking bout using the company to actually make people happy instead of just greed and temporary fixes. Imagine everyone gets the same amount of space in email, Same amount of page for webpage, Same amount of news groups, let everyone get the same speeds except in FIOS areas but, we all understand that one. In other words STANDARDIZE Everything. And take tech risks. Adelphia was testing VOIP and Docis 2 in homes before Time Warner would even conceive of testing in there own labs. Same way with DVR's and Programs. So MR New CEO you want to help the company? My advise is grow a set of balls and get Bold by using the model that Worked better than yours and your other cable counterparts. And also. GET RID OF Canada Tier 2 tech support and SUPPORT the Country that is making you Rich!!! Made sense for Adelphia and Comcast. Why not you? I mean lets really think about this. The Time Warner Corporation owns more than enough studios, record labels, businesses, companies i mean honestly even if it did cost a little bit more wouldn't it be worth it to know that your supporting the communities and states that make you rich by having local tech support around the US. Am i the only one that believes that we should support local business more to make our economy do something positive? -- I am the Coyote | |

In other words STANDARDIZE Everything. How do you know they're not standardizing everything right now? They just can't magically flip a switch and have every single node, hubsite, and head end instantly standardized to the same levels. It takes time, especially with them taking on Adelphia. In North Carolina, much of Adelphia where I know people that had it was a one-way cable system. They didn't even have VOD or even broadband. Adelphia was certainly not standard itself, not sure where you get that from. They offered phone in some places, but in most places not. Some places had HD stations, some did not.
|
| | | You talk about how great adelphia was, but where is it now. You also criticize the national help desk being in Canada, when all the divisions have a local tech support office. You complain pricing, but that would have to go up if they brought the NHD back to the states. Would you prefer to speak to other foreign countries that barely speak english, because that is what you will get with AT&T. | |

| sure standardize: Sure; 20 megabits down, 20 megabits up as the BASE internet speeds.. which means develop your fiber backed node infrastructure and back-bone links to HANDLE the load capacity, you cheap bastards and STANDARDIZE across all markets.. not 3 megabits some places, 5, 10 and 16 in others.. do the RIGHT THING and not on the CHEAP... NO cablemodem regardless of how congested the node is, should NOT be able to get VOIP signals to and fro... BTW, unless there is a diagnostic signal problem with the cablemodem, DO NOT let them convince you that you need a truck roll so they can hump you for $50, that's just a scam!
