I was thinking the $50/5 for 4 of us. And then of course smartphone lines costing $10 each, just like a basic phone rather than $10 + $30 each currently.

Re: Just Wait!Depends on where you are. Verizon around here has better 3G coverage than any carrier except maybe AT&T, but with more download speed (AT&T has more upload speed). Their calls won't drop where other providers' will.
This is from someone who recommends Sprint-based service to everyone. You (somewhat) get what you pay for.

HA more expensive than AT&T now.quote: 2GB cap for $30
FAIL. That's even more expensive than AT&T wireless which has 2GB for $25. Lets see here though..$30/month for unlimited compared to $30/month for 2GB..Yup what a deal! These big carriers are a downright joke and seem to get more expensive as time goes on, even though data in price has gone down. I'll stick with my Straight Talk and AT&T and iPhone for $45/month for unlimited voice/text and 2GB data.

WowJust like AT&T... Offering no value, sorry I'm not dropping my $30 a month unlimited for $80 a month for 10GB especially when I sometimes go over that (Not that often but still) Looks like when my contract is up I'll be saying bye bye to these greedy effs... I understand the limitations of spectrum and etc, but offering it and charging overages is purely a money grab, and I don't play that...

Re: WowI agree. I could see a possibility of them stating that you need to add 2GB more of data for tethering as a price point, but seriously - if you're capped on data, what do they care how I use it.

Yeah I totally agree with that, thus why I root my phone and download/install WiFi tether and PDAnet, even though PDAnet doesn't need root to operate, and I mostly use it anyway to charge my phone while tethering, I refuse to pay someone extra for a service that my phone comes capable of doing just because they want to charge me and heavily limit my use. The only time I ever tether is when I'm usually at the parents where there's no WiFi or fixed wired service, and I need to get online to play WoW.

Matt Hmm. Same situation as you. Have you had a chance to check att dsl - wireless bundle (if u have att phone of course). DSL 6 mb is only $20 a month and 150gb cap is a lot better than being limited to few gb. Not sure if they charge on top of that some fee for "dry-loop". If yes then no deal. However I am there at least every 2 weeks.

No, but I don't go there that often, so it's really not often I use my WiFi tether, the only times I really use it is either when I'm there, or at my friends that has a laptop and no internet and just steals everyone else's slooooooow WiFi. I don't think I'm doing too bad considering I probably average 5GB a month max and only sometimes go over 10GB when it's a month when I'm not at home that much. Matt

Your phone comes capable of making voice calls to, so why don't you refuse to pay someone for a service (voice calls) that your phone comes capable of doing? Your logic doesn't make any more sense than that.

Wait...I thought they were supposed to have a tier that would save people who don't use very much some money?
But the 2GB is the lowest and it costs the SAME as the unlimited now does?
That's just ridiculous, but expected.
Fuck you, Verizon. | |
|
| |
Re: Wait...I would have expected them to at least match it up with AT&T 2GB $25 plan. And offer some entry level 200-300mb for $15.
It looks like they are going back to times when they were the most expensive (when voice minutes were popular, nationwide calling emerged and cingular (now att) for the same price included what still offers today rollover minutes while verizon never had it and never will.
Verizon was like on top of list the most expensive, followed by AT&T, then T-Mobile and Sprint.

WTF Pricing?Seriously, those rates are pretty fail, even for single line rates. Verizon had better offer free tethering with these new "improved" plans, since they're already overcharging them like dedicated cellular ISP customers.
God damn, I'm really happy I'm with Sprint now.

Existing plansWhat of Existing plans? I'm currently on Unlimited. If I just keep this phone once my 2 years is up, do they automatically start capping me? Or does it begin as soon as I sign a new contract?

Re: Well...This is exactly it. If enough people say screw you and leave Verizon for say Sprint, even if it's just for one 2-yr contract term, Verizon will have no choice but to lower these insane prices.
But that's the problem. Too many people talk a big talk about how bad these prices are, but fail to walk the walk and take action. That's the only way to affect change.

Re: What about ex-alltel customers?Plan changes never affect existing customers until said customer changes plans or gets a new subsidized device requiring a contract extension. Just pay for your new devices at full price and you won't have to deal with the new plans. That is until Verizon tells you that your old plan is no longer compatible with the phone you want to activate on the line.

At least I'll be grandfatheredBack when I had AT&T, I had my family talk 59.99 for 850 minutes (9.99 per additional line plus taxes and fees) plan that I had had since I signed up in 2004. I have kept that plan through many upgrades and even when I had my iPhone 3GS. When I cancelled in 2011 to switch to Verizon, AT&T downsized that plan to 59.99 for 700 minutes. I now have the 59.99 individual plan through Verizon Wireless with the 29.99 data plan and 200 texts for 5.00. My current phone is the iPhone 4 so it costs 10.99 for the Assurion handset coverage (at least it has loss/theft/damage coverage which AT&T does not offer).
My mother (who hates Verizon Wireless and is loyal to AT&T, because of VZWs issues with poor signal strength in the past, which was back in 2004) took responsibility for my remaining Family Talk lines and she gets a discount for being a government employee. Now I rule the air because I have reception where she does not. I was in Target at Hampshire Mall in Hadley, MA (mall is an AT&T dead zone) and she wanted to call my Grandmother to ask a question about what to buy and she had no signal so she told me to call grandma and ask the question and I had 2-3 bars and hers had no service.
As for the data plan, I am going to hang onto it until they force me to change it. I most likely will have the option of being grandfathered since they usually unload new and more expensive plans onto new customers. Just like I was able to keep the more generous plan that AT&T (then Cingular) offered back in 2004 and was allowed to keep it, even when I bought my iPhone 3GS in November of 2009. I think I will keep Verizon Wireless from now on and I hope my mother will eventually switch when she realizes who has a better signal. Plus Verizon has better call quality, which is comparable to a landline. I also have the MiFi 2200, which is on the $35/3 GB plan, which is why I am not buying the new Samsung 4G mobile hotspot because I'd have to go with a minimum of $50 for 5 GB and I don't use it that often. If they'd let me keep the $35/3GB plan on 4G, I'd cough up the $269 full retail price of the Samsung MiFi since I am not eligible for an upgrade.
Downsizing is common today, you'll know what I mean if you've been to a supermarket lately. Higher prices for less product are the norm today. Anything from breakfast cereal to to paper towels are going up in price and coming in smaller package sizes.

Not shocking nor surprising...I guess they got their fill of "unlimited" subscribers for a while.
Not sure on this one, but I think AT&T kept their unlimited longer than verizon did. Again, not sure on that one as someone would have to do the legwork on that one as I don't have time.
