New VoIP Based Phishing Scam

Familiar phishing attacks have now evolved into phone scams. Secure Computing Corporation engineers have been tracking news group sites and open disclosure discussion groups that have been buzzing with talk about a new technique called "vishing." This new method exploits the low cost of VoIP and combines it with the social engineering aspects of phishing to extract financial information from unsuspecting credit card and banking customers. The scam is a telephone based version of phishing, hence the name vishing. Story continues

I've gotten one of these calls

Some bibble-babble about how my X-bank credit card was going to have its minimum payment changed. I'm pissed off at myself for not writing down the 800-number.

The scary part was that the 'X' was my primary bank.

I rang the bank, and they swore they never made such broadcast phone calls to notify customers. So it was this v-phishing crap.

I can see a lot of dummies falling for this one. It was quite slickly done.
