New Wide Open West Speeds This Week?

The past week or so has seen our Wide Open West forum filled with chatter about the company upgrading their speed tiers starting tomorrow (September 16). Tipsters suggest that customers will not only be seeing new bundles, but most tiers will see significant speed hikes as well. Employees had stated new speeds have been in testing for a while -- but suddenly forum gossip is providing greater accuracy. It's a welcome shift, given that currently, the fastest standalone broadband service WOW offers is 6Mbps/1Mbps for $63.99.

These new rumors suggest that "Value" customers will be going from 768kbps/256kbps to 2Mbps/1Mbps, "Basic" customers will be going from 2Mbps/500kbps to 4Mbps/1Mbps, and "Advanced" customers will be going from 4Mbps/500kbps to 8Mbps/1Mbps. The company is also (if rumors are accurate) significantly boosting their top speed, moving "Ultra" and "Ultra Plus" customers from 6Mbps/650kbps and 6Mbps/1Mbps to 15Mbps/1Mbps and 15Mbps/2Mbps respectively. So far, WOW isn't willing to comment (usually the case with new speed launches), but you don't have long to wait for confirmation.

Honestly though I'm glad to hear that WOW is moving into 2007-2008 with speeds. Problem here is Comcast is stuck in last year.

Okay, let me rephrase: WOW will be upping their top speed to 15/2 in ALL markets, with no PowerBoost tomfoolery. Comcast on the other hand only implements 16/2 service where there's FiOS pretty much. The Denver area is stuck with 8/2. So while some areas aren't so bad, WOW's top tier would be a significant improvement over what I have right now with Comcast. Basically the difference between speeds for the first 50 MB of a download and speeds for the full download.

Re: Not bad Not sure about taxes and fees (only tax on my bill I get is for modem rental, and that's sales tax) but those prices are slightly less than Comcast's. Modem rental over here is $3/month for what amounst to a $20 modem, and installation was $49. But maybe taxes and fees go on top of that.

I could care less about ESPN 2. And NFL Network doesn't do HD all the time anyways. That's another station I don't care about though.

Will they get the TWC HD when the new HD weather star comes out?

God I hope not. Just like all the "news" channels in HD, weather in HD is just a waste of bandwidth.

I could care less about ESPN 2. And NFL Network doesn't do HD all the time anyways. That's another station I don't care about though.

ESPN2 shows over flow stuff at times.

They don't have CSN+ HD, SCIFI HD, SPEED HD, SPKE HD, USA HD, VS / golf HD, SCI HD, APL HD, BIO HD and more also they only HAVE 1 HD ver of SHO, MAX, HBO, and Starz.

TMC HD.

mlb extra innings HD.

Direct TV does with lower prices and the HD channels have the same # as the sd ver of them.

Also the there hd extra pack only has HD only channels in it. Unlike wow there they put HD channels that have a SD one in it.

vipin @wideopenwest.com	yipee I already upgraded, the switchover occurs at midnight mountain time and all I have to do is unplug the cable modem and plug it back in and ill be at 15 mb down 2 mb up. Good thing I checked dslreports I was about to disconnect to get comcast business and I really liked wow just wanted more speed.
