News Corp. Threatens to Take Fox Off The Air if Aereo Wins Company COO Pouts, Takes Ball, Goes Home Monday Apr 08 2013 18:24 EDT With streaming OTA TV provider Aereo having so far beaten back broadcasters suing to stop the service, at least one broadcaster has decided that their best course of action going forward is -- pouting. News Corporation COO Chase Carey today threatened that if Aereo wins their battle against broadcasters, News Corporation will pull Fox content off of the airwaves and simply move everything to cable. Reiterating their belief that Aereo is "stealing" content (even though users can get that same content with an antenna), Carey insisted the option was a logical "business solution": quote: "Aereo is stealing our signal," Carey said in his keynote conversation with NAB topper Gordon Smith. "We believe in our legal rights, we’re going to pursue those legal rights fully and completely, and we believe we'll prevail. But we want to be clear. If we can't have our rights properly protected through legal and political avenues, we will pursue business solutions. One such business solution would be to take the network and turn it into a subscription service."
With the number of OTA only households surging due to ever-soaring cable rates, the move would come at a steep cost, in addition to a mountain of regulatory and contractual headaches. And in the end Aereo is passing along the ads with the OTA channels, meaning that nothing is even really being threatened here. All Carey's really doing is pouting like a spoiled child, though Aereo probably really appreciates the free advertising since most people have still never heard of the company. |

Why that's a public service on their part."News Corporation will pull Fox content off of the airwaves and simply move everything to cable"
The question is, would anyone miss them? | | (Software) Sophos UTM Home Edition Ruckus R310

What I seeHere's what I take away from this. Aereo is basically a giant extension cord for FREE OTA television broadcasts. The entire broadcast is shown with the ADS intact. So what Fox wants to do is keep people from having another way to see the ADS that Fox earns revenue from. | |
