Though only 1 in 5 has downloaded full film or TV show
(old news - 05:14PM Tuesday Sep 05 2006)
tags: Video · stats · content
From the dull and even horribly unsurprising department comes a new survey that suggests people are watching more video on-line thanks to broadband. The survey states people are largely watching short clips; only one in five online video viewers has watched or downloaded a full-length movie or television show. That's likely because while there's a litany of pirated options, legit options are still falling short on features and heavy on restrictions while studios and networks tinker with DRM solutions. "Rome wasn't built in a day," says Benjamin Feingold, president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, in the AP report.

Well

If I had to make a choice between TV and the internet, My TV is history. I watch, and download videos I can not otherwise see.

Same here, i download all my favorite shows. Most the time i can download them within 5min of airing online. takes 12min on my connection to download a normal tv show.

Movies are also better online, what i really enjoy online is that lots of older movies are available to download or hard to get ones..like asian kungfu movies

I dissagree...

If I had the choice of watching say Prision Break on my 42 inch HDTV or in a 6 inch window on my computer.

I would plant my fat a$$ in front of the TV.

I for one never liked watching TV or movies on my computer.

Youtube...

This is proven by Youtube, which gets close to 10,000 videos uploaded to it each and every day. Just look at all the people on it and how many views popular videos get there, that is proof that people like online video.

Reason why people don't download tv shows is they either don't know about Torrent and Newsgroups or they don't want to take the risk of downloading stuff.

Maybe you haven't downloaded shows in a long time, but a good xvid/mpeg4 rip of an HD show is FAR from "crappy quality"... Infact, I had people thinking I was watching a DVD more than a few times.

If you wanna see quality TV rips, search for "HR" (basically means it's High Res capture with 5.1 sound.
