Nexus One To Verizon March 23?
AT&T, Verizon support coming soon...
by Karl Bode Monday 01-Mar-2010 tags: business · hardware · consumers · wireless
The new Google phone (the Nexus One) received lots and lots of hype, most of it focusing on how the device was supposed to revolutionize the US subsidized handset pricing model. Instead, it landed with kind of a semi-interesting thud -- and users complained of high fees, no phone support, and the fact that the phone was only available via T-Mobile. Google has tackled the first two of those problems, and now it appears the phone is poised to arrive on other carrier networks. Vaguely-sourced rumors indicate that the Nexus One is set to arrive on Verizon's network on March 23 -- which sounds about right, given that's the first day of CTIA. FCC documents indicate an AT&T version is also in the pipeline.

The Nexus One works fine on the nationwide robust T-Mobile 3G network.

It's the phone's firmware/antenna that has problems. Put the N1 next to a G1 or MT3G and the latter two will have 3G yet the N1 can't hold on to that signal.

T-Mobile USA works fine in Alabama, at least the parts to Alabama I frequent (mostly Muscadine, AL and Birmingham)

I doubt it, if you did you'd know about the spotty Tmobile coverage (several different phones).

I didn't say it's a bad phone, there are reception issues associated with it.

Re: It should do well

I would think that if any reception issues still exist, Google and/or HTC will fix them before March 23rd....I don't think Verizon will want to field hundreds of thousands if not 1M Customer complaints if the phone goes on their network.

Re: It should do well

You would think, but it doesn't really matter because the Verizon version uses a different radio frequency and antenna design (probably), and of course, different firmware for CDMA.

Remember, before Android 2.0, CDMA wasn't even a supported technology.

Makes sense

... if Droid pricing is any indicator. Both Amazon and Wal-mart had the MOTO Droid on sale for $50 this weekend (and still today) - that's a clear-out price, considering it has a 16GB card in it already.

Who will sell it Google or Verizon

I wonder who will sell it Google or Verizon. Google wanted to keep this phone in house it sounded, thus no store models. I almost bought the N1 and moved to T-Mo from Verizon. However, the issues with exchanges and other things being via Google scared me off. Instead of all that I went to the Moto Droid. The phone is great and with a custom rom it can be over clocked with no issues to the phone other than battery life. I haven't seen a need for it as my phone is fast.

would someone release

this phone with a full keyboard please?

pretty please!!!!!!!

Re: would someone release

trust me, EVERYONE I know with a Droid says they end up not using the QWERTY(physical) keypad since u get used to the touchscreen keypad after a while and it's response is real good. Physical keypad just makes the phone more bulky so they should just not release more phones with it. It's low tech.

Progress?

Well if Verizon's getting it on CDMA then hopefully Sprint isn't too far behind.
