Telecom manufacturer Nortel has announced their 2007 financial results and the news isn’t good.
Nortel reported a net loss for 2007 that totaled $957 million ($1.98 per share) -- a steep decline from the year earlier, when Nortel reported net earnings of $28 million ($0.06 per share). Revenues at Nortel were also on the decline in 2007. The company reported that fiscal 2007 revenues came in at $10.95 billion, down from $11.42 billion in 2006."
Despite being on the decline, Nortel insists that it’s poised to “compete against any company in the world”. The company’s goal is to return to their former profitability status by 2010 which they plan to do primarily by making leaps in mobile broadband and Carrier VoIP offerings. They are also in the municipal wireless business although they’ve announced no specific plans as to how that fits in with their financial projections.

Thanks John Roth

Thanks to your lack of well everything including common sense a once great company is still struggling to get back on its feet after your "attempt" at running it. Do us all a favor and stay under your rock and don't even attempt to run a ice cream store.

If you have concerns regarding the quality of news posted on DSL Reports, you can always submit your own stories for posting. . .

Don't know about you, but I don't pay Justin and Karl monthly for a news subscription so I don't expect dramatic, breaking news stories 24/7.

More like Nortel Struggles To Pick Next CEO!!

What the #$#@ does that mean?
Apparently, they are not haemorrhaging money fast enough.

But seriously, what is left of this company? Massive job cuts year after year, the sale of much of their manufacturing facilities, cuts in R&D funding, and how many years have they restarted their financials?

Nortel cannot seem to escape the hardship brought on by former CEO Roth, whose replacement Frank Dunn (and his creative accounting techniques) really keelhauled the company. Short termed replacement CEO Admiral Owens only stuck around long enough to transfer his flag (and executive bonuses) before jumping ship and leaving poor Mike Zafirovski at the helm.

I would not be half-surprised if the Board called in Lisa Hook, my understanding is she is an expert at her field.

I'll assume the point that you have tried to communicate is that the headline "Nortel Struggles To Overcome Profit Losses"
could have been written better.
Would you be willing to clarify the point of your post reply?

Re: Nortel Struggles To Overcome Profit Losses

It's a nonsensical headline. (Let's not even get into the subhead.)

What are "profit losses" and do companies "struggle to overcome" them?

It's god-awful.

The subtitle simply reflected Nortels preferences.
"Hope to be back on top in a few years"?
Clearly, it indicates a more traditional position that Nortel prefers.

I just figured that out.
Humor is not the only in short supply.
Should the opportunity to do it in any position ever arise for you I suggest you seize the moment & go for it.
I suspect they will be rare opportunities for you.
