Older PCs can't handle broadband
by telnet05 Thursday 26-Dec-2002
People who bought their computer more than two years ago could find that it is unable to cope with broadband. vnunet.com has learned that older PCs equipped with motherboards with low-power chipsets are incompatible with some broadband USB modems. This can throw up a whole host of problems. Either the broadband connection cannot be made, runs at very slow speeds or is intermittent and disconnects every few minutes.

who says older pcs arent any good!

I've a 95 compaq running win 95+ Net7.01 (loads of win98 and more mods 0sr2.1) So I use a pci adsl modem as most older pcs do not have usb - pci is marginally faster anyway and I have speeds tested of 478down and 250 up so can't complain
So don't put us oldens down!!

Ethernet only please

Never bothered with, or advised anyone, to use a USB modem. Ethernet only here, USB is just asking for problems. Save that USB port for your camera or MP3 player.
