I'll stick with FireFox. I used Opera in that 'awkward' time after Netscape 4.x was no longer viable, and before Mozilla turned into FireBird/FireFox and became usable. I haven't looked back till now. Right out of the box, I went to » dsl.sbc.yahoo.com/, and guess whut? "Browser upgrade required"... Sure, I can tell Opera to send a different user agent.... but that gets kinda old. Especially on the pages where features 'silently' fail, and you never realize what you're missing. (EDIT) Hm... even worse. Opera *DEFAULTS* to identifying as IE 6.0... And it still gets refused by some sites. Until they fix that crap, there's no way it'll ever be my primary, or even secondary browser. It may be individual sites doing it (detecting browsers in different ways), but ultimately it's up to Opera to deal with it if they want users to actually use their browser.

Re: I emailed them...said by M A R S:8hrs and 49 minutes and still no code. Send it again. The deal was 12a-12a PST ... looks like you were a little early. I did the same thing, but then re-sent it after midnight PST. No response yet, but since they're PST, it's still early ... 6:13 AM PST right now.

They fail to tell you that they don't mail you the code.
You need to click on the link to get the code and enter your e-mail address when the box pops up. Wait about 10 minutes or less and all of a sudden a reg code will pop up for you on your screen.

They never did answer, or even autoreply, to my e-mail message.

Maybe they email the code after the time is up. You send in for it before the deadline. After the deadline they just send one big blast of emails at one time.

Re: retire still waiting on a code ,Since you used the OPERA browser to do this, it put your code right into the system. The codes listed in other posts were because they used IE or Firefox to get the codes..
You can check to see that your registered by going to HELP/About Opera in the Opera browser.

Re: I emailed them...Followed M A R S advice, put my e-mail in where the xxxxx's were and my codes popped up in a matter of seconds. Used Firefox to get them. The codes I got are different from the the one posted, so give this method a try.

So I guess I originally emailed them too early. I emailed them again, but didn't get a response. Now I'm trying the email in the URL thing, but its taking forever to load. There it is..

Now is the time to test it out.If only they would send me a key after 3 hours. Guess they are not that serious about getting new users.
|
| |
Re: Now is the time to test it out.or maybe its a way to "sucker" people in to get their browsers, most places IF giving away a free code, with their product, send you the information (except on weekend within 24 hrs)
HAS ANYONE RECIEVED their code?? yest (Tuesday)8:11am Jazzy"
|
| | |
Re: Now is the time to test it out.You may be right jazzy or Opera got a larger response than they thought and figured out they would lose thousands upon thousands of dollars and are only sending out a set quantity to random users.
I read that a few users received their code yet I am sure I can say that more have not received it vs those that did .

Re: Now is the time to test it out.said by Grail Knight:...and figured out they would lose thousands upon thousands of dollars and are only sending out a set quantity to random users. They won't "lose" any money from doing this, they'll simply not make as much. The same people who are after free registration keys likely would NOT have purchased a key anyway.

Re: Now is the time to test it out.quote: They won't "lose" any money from doing this, they'll simply not make as much
. Let me see if I got this right. A company is not losing money by giving things away for free and growth remains stagnant or slightly better. So after bills are paid the companies investors are not seeing a return on their investment or even the dip the investment would take. I would consider that a loss. Must just be my way of thinking. quote: he same people who are after free registration keys likely would NOT have purchased a key anyway.
That is a bit of a stretch as I know people that have used free software that then pay for renewal keys or the full version because they liked the software. I do believe I obtained my AV and Firewall through that process.

Why bother?Ok, I'll grant you that the choice of a browser has turned into a fiercely personal decision that for some reason brings many people almost to blows, but this is a commercial product, that costs money or feeds you advertising. It exists in a market of free products that (largely are as good or better) and people are excited that after 10 years of this, they're giving away activation codes for 24 hours?
Go ahead, flame me all you want; I've got my asbestos undies on, but I still drink water from the tap, that I get freely from my well. I don't buy bottled water for the same reason I won't pay for a browser when there are perfectly good alternatives out there without that cost.

Re: Why bother? For the same reason people buy bottled water. You hit the nail on the head - you're not one who will, so I don't think there is any explanation that would make sense to you.
For me, I disagree with the last line - there aren't perfectly good alternatives out there without the cost, if there were I'd use them. IE is next to useless while playing russian rulette, and FF is both slow, and difficult to manager and get needed (for me) features to work. Plus the increasing security vulnerabilities + known and reported ones still there after a year make it very less safe in my mind than IE.
So, this has me using Opera - which has yet to push me away, but has been trying in v8.
Back on topic, this is a good chance for people to get something free, so why not? Though, I'd think this thread belongs in Hot deals IMHO.

Register ONLINE IMMEDIATELY - no waitingTo register online immediately, instead of waiting for an email response, go to this OPERA web page: » my.opera.com/community/p ··· /reg.dmlBe a little patient, it took about 3 minutes for the auth codes to pop up after submitting the form. It will give you codes for various operating systems.

Get your code here .....As was posted above .. go to this link » my.opera.com/community/p ··· /reg.dml .. drop your email addr in the box and a page opens with codes for all operating systems. The code will work forever ... they are only giving them away for 24 hours. The folks that have said in the past they cant get past the ads have no excuse for not at least trying it now and giving this browser a chance. I applaud Opera for doing this. An i welcome all the new Opera users.

Got the registration code right away, and it's pretty fast browsing too.
I still like FF better, but I'll certainly be using this more now that there are no ads.
