Opera Watch Google to Buy Opera? Posted by CmdrTaco on Thursday December 15, @03:31PM from the you-gotta-be-kidding-me dept. "Opera Watch writes Google is planning to buy the Opera browser. The source of the claim is Pierre Chappaz, the former president of Yahoo Europe. Google obviously can't buy Firefox, so Opera might be the next possible candidate." Look at Konfabulator and Yahoo. At first, some werent opposed to it, since some of the things Yahoo has done were good, but now Konfabulator is being bundled with more stuff that its users never really wanted.
I would just hate to see Opera go that route, and fall into the hands of another company that could do the same thing in the future. I sometimes wish that companies wouldnt try to add things to programs that dont need them, but since business is about making money, I highly doubt it will happen.

Just thinking about it gives me the chills. I explained why I think it would really ruin opera over in the other news article about this. -- Spread Opera! | | illJazzPremium join:2002-09-04 Geneva | I like Opera. I like Google. Google is known to make nothing but great services and considered historically, there is nothing that they've touched that then got worse... everything they acquire blossoms into an even better version of itself.
Still, I must agree that Opera is excellent as it is and I'd prefer to not have any other company screw around with that good standing, even if it's Google.
Principally, however, I see it this way: I like Opera. I like Google. What's wrong with them making a baby together? It could only improve Opera I'd say...
Having said that, I'd rather not take the risk and just leave things the way they are now -- Brutally honest--whenever possible. As a consequence what I say is IMHO, always. "Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards."
