P2P On The iPhone
Just remember to use Wi-Fi, not EDGE
A hacker has managed to port a functional P2P client to the iPhone based on the Mac Transmission BitTorrent client. According to Gizmodo, there's unfortunately no GUI yet and the application will drain your battery before you can say Steve Jobs. You also probably don't want to engage in P2P over AT&T's 200kbps EDGE network -- tests have shown the two simply don't play nicely together. Instead, you'll obviously want to seek out a Wi-Fi network. Definitely preliminary software, but it is a first.

The boot

that sounds like a good idea if you want att to terminate your data service.

Re: The boot

I doubt att, or tmobile in my case, would boot for the occasional torrent DL. It's not like everyone would be DL'ing movies 24/7 on their phone, and even if they did it would be over wifi and not edge.

It would be nice to have the luxury to DL something if need be, that would be great.

Re: The boot

Dunno, if I was crazy enough to run a torrent on my phone, I would definitely want it limited to wifi only. Some torrents take a lot time to download and inevitably I'm going to move around (that's the whole point of a mobile phone). Given that cellular data is still a relatively limited resource, P2P activity seems like a misuse of it in my personal opinion. Until cellular technology matures a bit more, I think that sort of thing is better left to land based services.

Re: Wow...

Thanks for the input "Somebody".

All you get with the iphone is something that looks cool.
There is nothing innovative on the iphone.
There are tons of phones that do what the iphone does, but much much better and for a lot less cost.

A girl could buy a Coach purse for $50 or Buy a LV purse for $2000. They are the same thing, they do the same thing, but one costs a lot more solely because of the name.

Re: Wow...

Except for one problem with your opinion... The iPhone does everything it does FAR better then anything the world has seen so far. And there is nothing remotely close to the iPhones interface, features, ease of use for less money. Throw all the plastic crap devices you want out there.. none of them come close.

The problem is "everything it does" is a small subset of what other smart phones do. Voice dial, speed dial, picture messaging, video recording. Leaving things like that out and adding Visual voicemail doesn't sound like any sort of innovation to me, it sounds like a step backwards.

Interfaces are a matter of personal preference, and ease of use is a judgement call. I find pressing and holding 2 to call my wife a lot easier than what I'd have to do on an iphone. As for features, yeah, the iphone is just so advanced (That's sarcasm, in case you missed it). Name one thing besides visual voicemail that hasn't been available for at least a year prior to the iPhone's release. Go ahead. Try.

Nokia E70

It has a real keyboard.
It can even interface with exchange or blackberry.

My friends has an iphone and my Nokia E70 beats it at everything.

They haven't finished touchscreen because they weren't working on it. That's what UIQ was for - same underlying system, different interface. Personally, I hate touchscreens - I use them at work and it's incredibly frustrating when it takes me ten times as long to type something because I don't have an actual keyboard.

And, as far as I know, S60 is still the only mobile platform that has Python, and Open C. Regardless, I never claimed S60 was the first in anything, I just said that they've been doing the things the iPhone claims to be the first to do for a year or more.

Re: Wow...

but I don't get why you don't just use the phone to make the call?
I mean its a neat device, but you can't compare it to a phone because it needs an actual phone to make calls when there is no wifi.

Re: Wow...
