PC Magazine Readers Say Cox is A+, GG Cox!
by JTRockville 02:01PM Friday Aug 29 2003

In a recent survey of PC Magazine readers, Cox was the only broadband provider to score an "A+". That's mighty impressive! PC Magazine bestowed the "Readers' Choice" award to: BellSouth, Cox, EarthLink, Insightbb.com, and Road Runner.

Who did they survey?

I don't think they surveyed to many BBR members. If they did Cox would come no where near an A+ rating.

Re: Who did they survey?

The survey participants were PC Magazine readers.

I took a few moments to browse this forum before I posted the news topic. The thing that impressed me the most, compared to my sole choice of a local residential broadband provider (who I dropped, cuz they kept dropping me!), was the participation of "official" Cox personnel in the BBR forum (albeit voluntary).

I'm curious, how would you rate Cox on the 8 categories?
• Overall Satisfaction
• Rates
• Customer Support
• Technical Support
• Connection Speed
• Connection Reliability
• E-mail Service
• Likelihood to Recommend

That's based on their current status. Cox is lucky they have customers left in many areas because they sometimes just do not responds. If you have to call into customer support is has gone back to a hit or miss situation. They do not appear to be taking much, if any, action at resolving the amount of spam received on their system.

HA!!
My thoughts EXACTLY!!!
I was thinking.."They NEVER asked MY opinion!!"

Of course you must realize, the Forum participants are looking for help with connections, and "positive" responses...That's OK, and I have no problem at all with that. The trouble is, MOST of the problems the folks experience is artificially induced by COX to limit bandwidth use, and will NOT be corrected, ever!!!(until tiering & more $$$ is paid by the un-witting consumer)

Funny, I dropped COX because they advertise "Up to 3MB D/L speed"...If they would come clean, and say something like "3MB, if your lucky" I could respect that!!!
Now, if I could figure out how to get rid of this signature tag

I'm not too happy with the service as it stands at the moment, hopefully I will be happy in the upcoming year. Of course I will probably be paying for the lovely tiering service, although that will probably be just as much as the SOHO service for residential users, unless they decide to go up on their price.

At 792 Cox subs surveyed, the sample size is certainly quite large.

It may be large, but I am not certain it is large enough or the locations are varied enough to a true representation of overall performance of the Cox system.

Re: Who did they survey?

Valid survey samples generally come out to 300-400 in size to be statically valid. That is why Nielsen ratings can judge a TV show's viewership with a relatively small sample and be accurate with a very small margin of error. The way the sample size is selected can skew the results. Was it random and large enough to represent the entire Cox universe? That is why the surveys you see in BBR are not valid. They are not random in nature and only look at a skewed portion of the entire population; those users with an axe to grind. I am not a statistics major and am only going off what I remember from college statistics courses. This is a great discussion!

Re: Who did they survey?

Didn't the pollsters and statisticians revise the cross section number higher after the last presidential elections because the 300-400 provided inaccurate indicators?
I agree with the remainder of you post and your are correct the BBR polls are very skewed.

Re: Who did they survey?

Hank, I'm not sure about this, but I think the size of the survey sample has to do with the size of the over all population being sampled. So, 2 million CHSI customers may be okay for a sample size of 300-400 or the 792 as suggested above. The whole population of registered voters may require a larger sample. Hopefully, there are more than 2 million of those! LOL.

Bull

I don't think they would even come close to A+ if I had my say. Maybe C or B-, but NEVER a A+...

Valid Surveys

I'm not sure what survey methods PCmag uses, but the ones I have seen in BBR are definitely not representative of the CHSI population. I laugh everytime I see these things posted here. Of course the results will be slanted negatively since people are coming here to complain.
