EUREKA, CA (AP) -- Officials with Pacific Gas and Electric are looking for four pounds of radioactive fuel they can't account for from a closed-down nuclear power plant near Eureka.
The Humboldt Bay Power Plant has been closed for nearly three decades. Officials think the missing fuel may be among the hundreds of old rods that were placed in a deep storage pool since 1976.
A spokesman for PG&E says officials are confident the missing rods will eventually be found in the pool.
