A man was hit and killed by a Caltrain near the Hayward Park station in San Mateo, according to a Caltrain spokesperson.
The person was fatally struck by southbound train No. 210 just south of the Hayward Park station at about 7:20 a.m., Caltrain spokeswoman
Christine Dunn said.
He was hit in an area where there is no designated crossing.
"There was no reason for the person to be on the tracks," Dunn said.
Caltrain officials don't know whether the incident was a suicide.
Trains were stopped while investigators were on the tracks, but they began running again in both directions at about 8:30 a.m., she said.
Caltrain said its trains were running about 30 minutes behind schedule.
The incident comes after a computer glitch caused disruptions on Caltrain throughout the day Thursday.
