Just an announcement, the recent changes to the terms of service in regards to port 25. Please read and heed.

Port 25 Opt Out Procedure - Removing the Filter

In order to achieve consistency among our offerings and to comply with industry standards for reducing spam and other forms of network abuse, the following policy on access to Port 25 for AT&T residential ISP services is now in effect.

• All Members currently granted access to Port 25 will retain access.

• Members requesting Port 25 access will be asked to subscribe to an appropriate class-of-service that provides that access. In practice, this means that customers with residential accounts will be directed to upgrade to business accounts.

This is just a notice of change of service. I believe the Terms Of Service have also been updated.

Q&A:

Q: Does this affect 3rd party e-mail services?
A: Conditional:

1.)Yes, If your mail provider uses ports 25/110 and you have a new account, you would need to contact your mail provider to get alternative ports. Advise them my ISP blocks them by default for residential customers. They should have alternative ports you can use.

2.) No, If your 3rd party mail provider uses different ports besides the 25/110 this will not affect them and they should still continue to run normally.

Note: If you are not sure please contact your e-mail provider and get help before engaging us.

Q: If I have port 25 unblocked, can I retain it.

A: Per the above notice, Yes, you may retain it, however if you cancel your account, and register a new account, you may lose this option. If you re-register your account (disconnect/reconnect) you may lose this feature as well.

Q: Is my uverse service affected by this.

A. conditionally- I have heard reports you can get port 25 unblocked, however I haven't heard if it was just for business uverse or residential uverse. If they follow the same policy as ADSL does, It should be blocked none the less. Again, if you are operating on different ports, this should not affect you.

Thanks
david
