Provinces prodded to move on waiting times

OTTAWA -- Federal Health Minister Tony Clement is frustrated by what he sees as the apparent unwillingness of the provinces to move quickly to develop lists of acceptable waiting times for critical medical procedures.

Only Quebec, which will pay to send patients to other jurisdictions if they cannot receive hip and knee replacements and cataract surgery within six months of diagnosis, has taken steps to enact a waiting-time guarantee, Mr. Clement said yesterday.
