Quantenna Promises 10 Gbps Wi-Fi by 2015
A company by the name of Quantenna Communications this week announced that they hope to offer a Wi-Fi chipset capable of offering 10 Gbps by 2015. According to the press release, the hardware Quantenna is using relies on an evolution in multiple antenna design known as MU-MIMO technology (multi-user MIMO), as well as adaptive beamforming and channel monitoring and optimization. According to Quantenna, they chipsets will first start showing up in enterprise gear sometime around 2015, though they're clear to point out they've got existing hardware relationships with residential companies like AT&T and DirecTV.

Primary uses

Will be good for public WiFi locations, like busy airports. If they supply enough backhaul.

on the other hand i would hope any public wifi hotspot that has a congested back haul but plenty of wifi bandwidth would not upgrade until they fix the back haul first. when i worked at a computer store nearly every day people would come in not understand why a new router was not speeding up their slow DSL connection.

Sounds suspiciously like just allowing more channels for more bandwidth rather than adding any real innovation. Based on that, congestion would net about the same speeds as current wifi.

One thing for certain...

We can count on the fact that AT&T never does anything to save anyone money.
