Telephone company Qwest Communications International Inc. said Thursday that W. Thomas Stephens had resigned as a director of the company. The resignation was effective July 9.
A director of Denver-based Qwest (NYSE: Q) since 1997, was president and CEO of Manville Corp. from 1986 until his retirement in 1996. He also served on the Manville board and was its chairman from 1990 to 1996.
Stephens said in a statement that he was leaving because he wanted to concentrate on other activities. He said the progress Qwest has made and the current leadership of Dick Notebaert, chairman and CEO, "make this an appropriate time for me to now focus on some other business activities. I've seen Qwest's leadership team make tremendous progress over the past two years, and the time is simply appropriate for me to accommodate other challenges."
