Quite right too

Your home network is your responsibility As long as the connection gets to your house, you get an ip, and get to the "net"; then mediacom's reponsibility ends. I can also see why they are doing this. With such a diverse range of solutions available, the support cost must be huge to even try and support them - even in the most basic sense.

Support is one thing but....

Routers and NAT are generally disallowed by the service agreement with Mediacom in the first place! What worries me is that now they'll start to enforce that portion of the agreement. I'm not sure that I'm comfortable living with a connection mode that doesn't allow me to layer security to include hardware devices. I know my employer who allows me to work from home and has audited my security won't continue to do that if there can't be a router and NAT to the PC. I'm holding my breath and watching for the next shoe to drop.

Re: Support is one thing but....

This was pretty much the policy at the Des Moines office since it's inception - no support for routers other than to get it registered. Some techs may be willing to give limited support, but it tends to vary from one tech to another.

So, get a real network, not a router!

I can completely understand WHY MC won't support routers. I mean, every cable company in the world (almost) has the same policy. They're just NOT allowed. Spend the $5/month extra, GET the extra ip address and throw it into a hub. I do, and that is a FAR better way of doing things (all you have to do is visit sas to get things working).

Router support is iffy

Here in the GB call center we only support the router and home networks to the point of making sure its registered in SAS. If the sub cant get to SAS though the router or the if the sub cant get all the computers behind the router working thats up to the sub and the router manuf.

I get calls all the time from people who have 2-3 computers behind a router and are like 1-2 can connect but the others can't and for some reason think this is Mediacoms fault. More or less at the point all we do is just point them to the support website or contact # (on a good day) for the router manuf.

I agree that it depends on the tech you get when you call too, some techs will help (if we're not busy) and others will not help at all. Guess its just the luck of the draw.
