Record labels say CD sales down 7%, blame Web
by Robert Wednesday 28-Aug-2002
Compact disc shipments fell 7 per cent in the first six months of this year versus last year as growing use of Internet downloading services undermined sales, the record industry said on Monday.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), which represents the world's largest record labels, issued a study by Peter D. Hart Research Associates indicating that Internet users who say they are downloading more music also said they were purchasing fewer albums.

Re: YEA! your right!

I'll have to agree, most of the new groups and bands suck, lets face it, if you aim music at young kids, they will download it all.

What about the loss of millions of jobs?

Look at the fact that millions have lost their jobs since September of last year, don't they think that this just might cut into discretionary income? I for one wouldn't be buying CD's if I was out of work!
