Given Redbox' even-more-underwhelming libraries, I don't think Netflix has anything to worry about.
While Hastings received a lot of populist rage for adjusting his pricing last year, it was the right move to sustain the service, and the subscription levels reflect it.
Netflix' real problem is bit delivery; if they don't negotiate a long-term strategy to get around "net neutrality" limitations, the MSO's will have a renewed opportunity to promote their own VOD services. | |

It should work the same way as any other streaming service. It's a streaming service, not a download service.
But even on my Girlfriends 1.25 Mb/s DSL connection she can stream from netflix with zero issues. Of course it's not HD, but if she had 3Mb/s DSL she would be able to get the 720P HD streams from netflix. | |

Netflix's HD streams always used around 4.5 to 5.5mbit/s on my gear. Can they compress HD into 3mbit/s? | |

The thing about Netflix is that they are going to have to raise rates soon. There is no way around the huge licensing costs. So yes, Coinstar/Verizon is in the same boat here-- expensive content. However, the key is to create value in this emerging market. | |

The only choice I have is Comcast, unless I want subpar Verizon DSL, even though FiOS is less than 500' from my home down a 4 lane highway. Since it appears they are done with build out, that means my subdivision will never have anyone but Comcast as a provider. | |

as far as streaming titles, there is much to be desired, there is hardly any titles that can be streamed.
stick with NF until RB has more titles available for streaming.

I personally would pay $20 a month to get the latest movies streamed to me.
I even like the idea of getting 4 vouchers every month I can use on new movies (they dont roll over). However, I more than likely will not switch to this unless they provide more content, more recent content and more top tier content than Netflix does.
Without that, I will occasionally get a movie I want from a kiosk when I occasionally want to just sit at home some night and I dont have DVR'd shows already queued up a waiting for me to watch.
This will be available for the 360 but not the PS3 at this time along with providing apps for android and iphones. | |

Agreed.
I subscribed to Hulu+ for a while. Soon found they didn't have enough content to justify even their measly $8/mo., so I dropped it. We do have a Netflix subscription for $8/mo., and we do find that useful at that price.
No cable or satellite subscriptions because we feel they're no worth what's being charged. Same for the streaming rental places (Amazon Prime, etc.). $4-$5/rental, when I can scoot down to the corner video rental place and rent the BD for $3.50 or the DVD for $3? I don't think so. Same with the purchase prices. In fact: Those are worse, considering my wife and I just picked up a whole stack of BDs at Wally World for an average of less than $7/ea.
Bottom line: My wife and I aren't finding the on-line offerings very compelling.
