Rigas Family Gets Into VoIP
Reaching out to techs Time Warner laid off...

The remnants of the Rigas cable empire live on in rural Coudersport & Emporium, Pennsylvania. Trial settlements allowed the family to maintain control of the network at the foundation of the Adelphia empire (5,000 subscribers and a $10 million net worth). Rebranded Zito Media, the company has been migrating Adelphia broadband and cableTV customers to their service since the tail end of 2005. This local area website (which doesn't mention the Rigas name once) notes that the company is now expanding into the VoIP business, and is looking for former Time Warner Cable techs in the area who lost their jobs after TWC closed two local call centers..

Intruiging

They have a very intriguing proposition for agents to do tech support and Sales. They will hire teams of 10 people who need to maintain a 24/7 schedule and will be paid by the amount of customers they can sign up. The start up pay is horrendous but of course most people received some sort of severance package.

However if the service takes off the rewards looked pretty good.

Re: Intruiging

Is this the cable company type digital phone or independant VoIP like Vonage? From what I understand, the area this company covers is quite small. How long will it take for these teams of 10 to canvas the existing population of that area and sign up those who want it, and weed out those that dont? I wouldnt think it would take to long. Still a pretty good deal though, I guess.

EDIT-- I guess it is a nationwide VoIP service, so it looks to be fairly promising.

Re: Intruiging

Yeah...its a nationwide service....

I am not sure how good a deal it is....with the issues that Vonage have with making cash....I am not convinced.

Welcome to IT. At my former job we had 1/2 that number that were required to maintain 24/7 support for our server infrastructure of over 700 servers.

Rigas is the family name of the founder of Adelphia Communications. I don't know exact numbers, but Adelphia was probably the 4th or 5th largest cable provider in the country at one time. Several years ago they started a downward slide to do some SEC violations that ultimately let to the convictions of some of the Rigas family members. Most of Adelphia was sold off to Comcast and Time Warner. My guess is that in many areas the Adelphia emplyoees were let go as existing Time Warner call centers too over their responsibility.

Just because you have never heard of Regis or Adelphia doesn't mean that they don't exist.

Like, by the way, it's like annoying when you like use like in like every sentence.

Their website

It seems to look like their website was done using Microsoft Publisher back in 1987. The clipart is too much! What are they thinking?

That's how the Rigas' did/do things. Everything is third rate, at first rate prices.

Scumbags!
