Rogers and Shaw already stay out of each other's territory, splitting Canada East/West for wireline services.

There is no longer any such connection.
From a functional (and also historical) standpoint, Bell Canada would be the closest equivalent to AT&T in Canada, especially since Bell Canada was once considered to be part of the Bell System as a Regional Operating Company. It was only a partial ownership (peaked at 49% in 1885), but both AT&T and Bell Canada spawned from Alexander Graham Bell's original telephone patents (the US and Canadian versions of the patents respectively). -- Developer: Tomato/MLPPP, Linux/MLPPP, etc »fixppp.org

Yes. But don't watch it too closely or you'll quickly go over your monthly 'cap'.

RARPSL join:1999-12-08 Suffern, NY | Why are they being allowed to keep the licenses? "It should be noted that Rogers was barred from participating in the auction for that wireless band because Industry Canada felt they already had too much of an advantage in the market".
Given this ban, why are they not being required to divest themself of the Shaw licenses as part of the approval of the deal. It looks like Industry Canada is falling down on the job here or has been paid off to look the other way.

It is still subject to approval from the competition bureau, crtc and industry canada which isn't likely to happen until next year.

bisk join:2002-06-15 Binbrook, ON | Please don't let this happen! Shaw has greatly improved the old Mountain Cable service. Their prices and available plans are light years better than anything that Rogers offers.
|
| | Cogeco should have acquired Mountain Cablevision... Cogeco should have bought Mountain Cablevision - at the first place! That way, it'll keep Shaw out of the backyard! | |
