I'll tell you that around here T-mobile is great, and I have been out of contract. My friends with Verizon seriously lack service, and often times text messages aren't received.
I'm looking forward to the launch and debating whether I should wait or not to get a new phone. | |

I have had t-mobile service in the chicagoland area since 2003 and can say i am very happy with them too. They sucked pretty bad when i first got them but after a few years, they improved a lot. Every month for like 2 years, they added another tower or two. I still make a habit of checking »compass.t-mobile.com for new towers. It's a good feeling to know my provider is actually adding towers and i can look and see them online. (I think sprint does the same thing though)
I have 2 coverage issues still though. One being my moms condo in tampa. Poor signal and they have been promising a new tower for 2+ years now. And second being the cta subway system. I have not heard anything about that lately. I know at&t doesn't have coverage there either. Just cdma coverage. (I think u.s. cellular at least. Maybe sprint or verizon too. I don't know much about cdma coverage in the red/blue lines). | |

I have a friend who works for Tmob in Seattle, and he was telling me its taken them this long to launch because even though the won the spectrum last year, it's taken forever for the previous spectrum squatters (ie other goverment entities) to get off the sold spectrum. It's been a mess! | |

WHO CARES? Why the hell are they using AWS? Seriously, why couldnt they use the SAME BANDS EVERYBODY ELSE USES? So we're forced to use their shitty low-end phones that they charge a ton for? I'll stick to my EDGE based iPhone on T-Mobile untill theres a phone thats worth paying full price for.

The point is, T-Mo sucks around here and is a joke at best. As for my friends that had T-Mo, they got AT&T and they have never looked back. Dropped calls are a thing of the past, I can't actually remember the last time I dropped a call on AT&T or Verizon...

I like AT&T a little more as they now have 3G, which is fast, I can usually get about 1.9-2.1Mbits/sec down while on Verizon I can only get about 1Mbps down. I also like the idea of the SIM card so I can run my TyTN II, and not have to buy the AT&T Tilt. The point is, T-Mo sucks around here and is a joke at best. I'll second that one, used to have T-Mobil here in Denver also, more dropped calls than a teen break up on the phone. Horrible service. Verizon has won me here.

GSM is at 900 and 1800 wordwide, 850 and 1900 north america
3G is 2100 worldwide, but 850/1900 in north america, and now they are adding 1700 in north america ?
How many handsets will be true "world" handsets with all that mismash of frequencies ? | |

| Re: 1700 + 2100 The AWS frequency uses 1700MHz Phone to Tower AND 2100MHz Tower to Phone, but the bands don't line up with other Countries, as 1700 is unique to the US.
You can't blame T-mobile USA .01 for this nightmare, it's the good old FCC's doing, and what bands they were able to vacate from other users to take to Auction.
T-mobile only purchased the AWS spectrum that was available to them.
It was either that, or no 3G ever, aside from them purchasing another heavily spectrum laden carrier such as Sprint/Nextel, which is still a possibility, since Verizon is currently tied up with acquiring Alltel.

I already have a T-Mobile Nokia 6263 phone that is UMTS/WCDMA capable on 1700-2100 UMTS, although we are still operating on GSM, but I dread to hear what they eventually charge for HSDPA.
At least they have ample competition, and being late to the game, they might initially offer some impressive deals to attract new customers, or draw them away from their competitors.
As deciding whether or not the network is investing in, I see Cricket(Leap Wireless) and MetroPCS now building out their new networks, and their target is FLAT RATE local voice plans.
There is still money to be made in Wireless Data, and I am still waiting to see where T-Mobile goes with it.

| AWS/GSM Spectrum Clearing Hey guys, one of the +'s with TMO's upgrade to AWS is that currently all the EDGE traffic occupies existing voice channels. Once AWS is operating (around Aug/Sept for So Cal and NV) it will free up all the previously used edge channels for voice; ie, fewer dropped voice calls. We have recently completed the install of 186 AWS sites in the Vegas market. TMO is drive testing and optimizing them now. | |
