SBC PacBell Sued Over Prodigy Service Fee (old news - 09:49AM Wednesday Dec 12 2001)
According to an article in the Los Angeles Times, "A consumer group sued SBC Pacific Bell on Tuesday, accusing the state's largest phone company of illegally charging customers for Prodigy Internet services they never ordered".

They will most likely refund the money and the suit will become moot.
What interested me in the article is that the CPUC signed off on a judges ruling about SBC breaking the promise of same level or better level of service for subscribers as before the "merger." (read that aquisition)
Many employees are actually resentful that SBC has come in and changed the way PacBell has done things, and not for the better. Employees used to respond proudly when asked who they work for. Now it's "Why do you ask?"
Perhaps this ruling will mean more people, although I doubt it. It probably will mean more forced overtime for technicians who are already tired.
Where do you think the capital budget for Pronto came from? It came from the core business. Cable that needs replacing is massaged every day hoping to just "get by"
