Need some speed (lots more of it)

Hi,

I ordered DSL service from SBC in August. It seemed a little slow in getting here, but I'm trying to be patient. Some minor glitches in setting it up, but now it's running. However, it has been consistently extremely slow. speedtest.dslreports.com consistently reports my speed in the range 140-160/100-110. The upload is about what I expect, but the download isn't enough better than dial-up (relative to cost) to justify keeping DSL.

From reading some of the forums, I understand there's some techs here that might be able to help. I also see that they say to use IM to contact them. Now, as I understand, there's several different IM protocols and servers (AOL, yahoo, MSN, etc.). Which would I use and what are the usernames/screennames that I contact? Is there anything else I can do to fix this--people on the phone don't seem to help much.

Thanks in advance for any and all help,
Elijah

Ooops--posted this in the wrong place. I feel sheepish.
