SEC Charges LightSquared Backer With Fraud
Illegal Trading, Revenge, Market Manipulation
by Karl Bode Thursday 28-Jun-2012 tags: legal · business · wireless · trouble
One-time wireless broadband hopeful LightSquared isn't having a particularly great year, with no product, no necessary FCC waiver, and no future. Now the primary financial architect of the project, Philip Falcone, is facing new SEC fraud charges alleging he misused client funds, manipulated financial markets and betrayed investors. The investigation has been underway for some time, and found that Falcone used $100 million from a hedge fund he advised to pay his personal taxes, attempted to illegally manipulate the market to get revenge against other investors, and participated in illegal trades tied to three public offerings of stock. Falcone's lawyer insists the charges are "neither supported by the facts or the law," and that any lawsuit will be "contested vigorously."

No wonder.

No wonder he wanted to start a wireless network. Sounds like he would have fit right in with the rest of them.

When you corner a snake...

...it get's ugly. Just like the rest of Wall Street...no big surprise. Move along.

Well hang on. Perhaps there is something telling... In the 90s investors flocked to any business plan that used the term .com. Apparently the term wireless is the new .com. I find that shocking since the incumbents would have us believe they barely survive in an ultra-competitive market.

Hmm.... Maybe, just maybe, they really exist in an ultra lucrative monopoly market and that's why he was able to sell this turkey to investors.
