They can pass a law demanding radiation levels be placed next to cell phones on store shelves, and pretty much 99% of customers won't care. It will be 1 more annoyance to the marketing depts of ISP retail stores and 3rd party electronics stores, but otherwise will have no effect on sales decisions.
Tell me the last time you checked out the warning about smothering on a box of Saran Wrap when buying it at the store.
But some dumb pol will tout himself as looking out for consumers best interests the next time he runs for office in San Francisco and will use things like this to prove his warm concerns for the voter.
And cellphone makers won't fight hard against this insanity because they can use the warnings in court as proof of their lack of liability if they ever get sued by people with brain cancer. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page

A better example is smoking. We know that smoking is bad and can slowly kill you. At the very least, almost every smoker I know smells like something you would find in a toilet . But, MANY people do it anyways.
You can put all the labels on harmful products all day long, it's just a waste of breathe; as no one reads the fine print in a contract - do you really think they will read the fine print on a label?

| Embarrassed As a native San Franciscan, even I am embarrassed by this. There are enough warnings already and most all are ignored because they are so absurdly commonplace. In Calif, we have the required Prop 65 warnings about dangerous chemicals that could cause cancer. Well, that includes virtually everything (even sand) so every store must have this warning posted at the entrance. Does ANYONE pay attention to this? Absolutely not...it is a complete waste of signage. If they had limited the requirement to REALLY dangerous chemicals, then it might have had some effect. As it is, nobody cares.
At least with Prop 65, one could see some sort of logic behind it. The cell phone requirement is completely unfounded and borders on witchcraft....or maybe even religion.

| Re: Embarrassed While I believe there is SOME (small) link between SOME brain cancers and EXCESSIVE cell phone use (actually EXCESSIVE EMF from MANY sources) in a ( very few) individuals... I believe the risk is minuet compared to the dangers of people talking/texting during other activities that SHOULD have their full concentration which poses risks both to the user and others around them. AND excessive labeling leads to MOST people ignoring ALL warnings, even those pointing out dangers that pose actual realtime high order risks. | |

| | Ever hear of cancer latency? I know people who have smoked for a number of years and haven't gotten lung cancer, which makes anyone who says differently a tin-foil hat-wearing conspiracy theorist.
My father smoked for > 20 years (then quit) and hasn't gotten cancer. I guess that proves cigarettes don't cause cancer!

| Re: Ever hear of cancer latency? Not really, but it does prove it is a filthy nasty habit; and as long as people keep it to themselves, that is fine; but remember their rights END where mine begin. I could care less if it can cause me harm or not, I don't like the hideous smell it permeates clothes and other things with. | |
