| Allergies. I have a severe allergic reaction to people displaying a lack of common sense.
I DEMAND that these people be kept at least 50 miles away from me at all times, with federal security personnel deployed to prevent them from ever having any form of contact with me. Failing to do so is a violation of the ADA and will result in my legal team filing suit.
I think most reasonable people would find this allergy to be extremely common among the populace. -- With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

| Inviting a lawsuit "My first reaction is, it's a disaster. My second reaction is, they're inviting a lawsuit," said Arthur Firstenberg, a leading opponent of the proposal. Well, they can sue all they want, but that means that they would have to prove in a court of law that "electromagnetic pollution" (as they call it) actually does make them sick. If they can't prove it, they can't claim discrimination against it.
And even if they prove that it is an allergy of sorts (really stretching here, of course), that doesn't mean that the city council can't put wireless Internet access in libraries and other public buildings. The library by me has a nice butterfly garden right next to the parking lot. However, all of those flowers could wreck havoc with the allergies of some people. So is the library unfairly restricting access to people with plant/flower allergies by having those plants nearby? -- -Jason Levine Support a children's charity. Buy a calendar. | I can "feel" when WiFi is "on" I can 'feel' when a wireless signal in the 1.9GHz ~ 2.4+GHz is transmitting data. Eg. When my notebook's wireless is enabled, after approx 60 seconds I can feel a tingle in my head. With extended exposure I tend to lose my ability to focus. This is not a new thing for me. I have been having this issue with ALL digial cell phones since the late 90's that use the 1.9GHz range, but WiFi and home portable phones seem to have a much higher transmit power lvl then the PCS phones.
This is not a good thing, as I'm not the only person that is sensitive to this frequency. It is after all in the Microwave range. If anyone disputes my claims I will submit to tests to prove it. I can be in a room for less then five and KNOW that there is a wifi enabled device transmitting data. It's worse when I get near a wireless router or the base station for phones.
If I use wireless(notebook) for over 20min I will have a major headache for at least 2 hours.
As for XM radio and TV, those are using the same Freq yes but the power lvl's when they reach the surface of the earth are not even close to the power lvl's from WiFi and 2.4GHz phones.
I try not to use wireless when ever possible and I never have my routers 'wireless' enabled, As for portable phones I use the older 900MHz models, they don't seem to bother me. I do use a cell phone but only for short calls.
I'll bet the act of talking on the cell phone while driving isn't the reason for the poor driving, but rather the effect the signal has on the brain.
I know it affects my concentration.

| I'll be more clear, When a wireless router is not transmitting data. Just sitting there and broadcasting the SSID, I can usually live with it being 'on'. But when it is actually connected with a notebook or other wireless client, that is when the problem bothers me. I have never had issues with Microwave ovens as they are SHIELDED. I will admit that I know of only ONE other person that can 'feel' or 'sense' a modulated wireless signal with data transmission occurring. Again, it's not really a pain, more of an awareness of something is ...'off' or not right. It affects me the same each time. I feel a 'tingle' on the right side of my head, which leads over a period of a few minutes to a feeling of loss of focus. I will submit to any testing you want to set up. I have mentioned this to my family doctor years ago.... His response, I think you have shingles! Come back to me in week if your 'tingles' don't go away. It was after this that I requested my work not use a wireless router and I sold my home 2.4GHz phone.
I know lots of people that when I've told them this, they look at me funny. But when I walk into there homes and while I'm in the doorway talking my shoes off I tell them they have a wireless network that is active and is transmitting data, then they think twice about what I've told them.
I don't have issues with people setting up wireless network in there home and work places. But when Public wireless networks are going to be or have been installed, it affects my freedom of choice to enter these PUBLIC places. I wish people would at least acknowledge that there hasn't been a long enough time for testing the LONG term affects for wireless exposure.
I remember reading an article about how many police officers were getting testicular cancer at an extremely higher rate then the averages should be. So after further study all of these men used Radar Guns for speed enforcement for a minimum amount of time during there carriers, and while not actually pointing the guns to check speeds they rested the units in there laps..... Well I'm sure they were all told that the guns were safe, and they had nothing to worry about. Unless they pointed the gun at themselves and pulled the trigger....
Again, I'll submit to any professional tests to prove my claims...

| Re: I can "feel" when WiFi is "on" Unlike most people, I do take what you're saying with a degree of truth to it. I myself (and i've been a LONG time member of DSLR) have some degree of sensitivity to RF exposure.
I am not sure how to really explain it, but it doesn't bother me (i'm not claiming i'm allergic or have bad reactions!), it's more of an awareness of nearby transmissions around me.
One example is when I was about 13 years old, we had an 800 MHz analog Motorola bagphones (one on Alltel and one on AT&T Wireless Services at the time). I used to be able to "sense" when it was about to ring. Almost as if I could pick up on the paging channel response of the phone starting to transmit back BEFORE it rang. I used to grab the handset and was ready to hit SND (to answer) before it actually even rang. Now, I know some people might say that it was just by chance, but it happened all the time.
It even happened with an analog DPC-550 & 650 Motorola flip.
I have noticed it up until moving away from TDMA.. Probably my first data phone.. A SonyEricsson R280LX, circa 2000. I haven't been able to "sense" a phone transmitting anymore.
I don't know if it's because of lower-powered TX on the handsets or if i've just lost that sensitivity as I've gotten older. I definitely never noticed it on CDMA, and I never recall it on GSM either (which is TDM based!).
I can sometimes tell when there is a wireless AP near me (very nearby, like on the opposite side of the wall I'm standing near). But usually not.
Hard to describe without sounding like a nutjob.. It's just a feeling I get on my head, sort of like a warm spot on my skin.. sometimes like a very dull headache with a sense of confusion for a few seconds.
I definitely haven't felt it like I used to with 3-Watt bagphones nearly me back in 1995-98. But, there are times where I will feel it again from something transmitting RF.
I recall a few times being up on "Tower Mountain" when I lived in Spokane, WA and getting that feeling being nearby every TV/FM transmitting tower for the Spokane DMA.
Today, I work in the Empire State Building (55th Floor), and I know I am around a ton of RF emissions.. The top of the building transmits a bulk of TV/FM stations, and nearby buildings like Times Square 4, GE, etc. transmit as well... but, strangely, I don't sense any of it.. but, I can tell when I walk by (within 5 ft.) one of our Wi-Fi APs at work.
Go figure, I can't explain it, and won't pretend to be able to! -- -Sterling »66.246.218.40:8000/

| I'm sorry. You might as well go on about how you can see x-rays or feel gamma rays. Your body has no mechanism with which to sense radio frequencies with the exception of the narrow spectrum of visible light. It's that simple. Claims of WiFi sensitivity are as meaningless as claims of psychic power. When you look closely at them, they disappear. | |

My best advice for them is to go live in an Amish Community,I'm just embarrassed to work in the same town as these people. Sure a lot of people have certain allergies or disability's but when has it ever stopped progress. Since when do we stop making progress just to make a handful of people comfy with there lives. Let a few of them go belly up first then we'll talk about a ban on public WIFI.

| Dude, Where's My Lawsuit? I also suffer from an audiological allergy. When I'm exposed to certain frequencies in a certain order, it triggers a source-centric seizure that can result in the loss of body fluids or other damage to the offending source. Examples of the pitch-duration frequency chains are "I'm allergic to wifi", "accept my extreme claims without any evidence of certitude" and "my computer's running slow. Will you clean it for me?"
I also like windsurfing, long walks on the beach, I make balloon animals and I'm available for bachelorette parties.
